It will really mess with the heads of the video analysts for the opposition if he is in line to play in any game. There is no footage or stats and know way of knowing what he will do.simonokeeffe wrote:Madigan assuredly brings x-factor to scrumhalf role toonc6000 wrote:But Thornley will probably be happy as he's now able to use the phrase "Petit General" and make the connection between Madigan covering 9/10 and how they typically do things in France.LeRouxIsPHat wrote:Joe also said that he'd mentioned it to Madigan last season about preparing to cover for 9 if necessary and he's been working on it himself over the last few months. Thornley won't be happy after he was so adamant that he knew the story about that last week.

Sure there's thousands of minutes of footage of him playing ten that they could watch and still not have a clue what he'd do there either

Gutted for Trimble.... well, he may yet see the latter stages, we'll see.
Re: 31 Man Ireland RWC Squad
The sh situation makes a lot more sense now that schmidt has spoken - mad that this in the pipeline for months and no one had wind of it. calculated gamble - fine.
The trimble one is still difficult to understand though - a gamble to get trimble in with possible injuries is one I can under stand. With cave picked we don't need Earls and Fitz to cover 13. pivoting zebo also means that we have lots of cover before you talk about specialist wings. I would have thought it would make far more sense to pick trimble initially - if he gets fit and firing great if he breaks down - you have earls/fitz/DK to come straight in. The overall squad makeup means that wing is a spot where we can take a chance - hard to understand why that chance wasn't taken on trimble

Hopefully all of the oppo coaches are visualising all the same cr@p you are in a state of confusion.Golf Man wrote:The sh situation makes a lot more sense now that schmidt has spoken - mad that this in the pipeline for months and no one had wind of it. calculated gamble - fine.

There is no confusion - I don't think it can be argued that in Schmidt's time Trimble has produced the best wing displays by far - he is probably the player most suited to the game plan. Taking a risk on the 3rd sh in order to allow Trimble (with little doubts over fitness and match fitness) makes sense. Taking the risk to allows us to have 5 options at wing, and 3 backups at 13, seems a little bit pointless

Unbelievable that Trimble is left behind.
He has had plenty of JOE-time, 2014 player of the year, ticks all Joe's boxes for a hard working, efficient and physical winger with good aerial ability but also knows where the tryline is.
Runs good support lines and has a tendency to run forward when he gets the ball. He can spot and hit space. Even though he missed most of last season his 35 mins v Wales was impressive.
A poor decision and to me, injury apart, inexplicable.

He can be a bit of a Tony Ward. Gifted player that is difficult for the opposition to read. Unfortunatly sometimes his own team do not know what he is up to either. Madigan is not as bad as Ward was but that is probably more to do with the better coaching.LeRouxIsPHat wrote:Sure there's thousands of minutes of footage of him playing ten that they could watch and still not have a clue what he'd do there either

Kilcoyne? - athough think he is apparently still in camp ready to step in for England game if Healy doesn't make it. Would have thought he was right at the front and most liklely unfortunately to make itsimonokeeffe wrote:Standby squad is officially Bent, Tuohy, Conan, Boss, McFadden, Trimble, Jones and one more the article didnt name, but basically f you Craig Girlroy

Fanning & O'Reilly on the Down The Blindside podcast were convinced Killer left out over conceeding silly penalties
Also factor of White's propensity for injuries skews it towards a 3rd tighthead rather than losehead
Here's a thought for the props,
start Furlong loosehead v Canada with Healy on bench, McGarth starts v Romania with Healy on bench, then Healy up to speed enough to start v Italy & France
BTW is it true you cant call up a replacement for a suspended player?
