Badly injured on his debut this time 3 years ago.
Not sure how long he was here before the game.
2nd row has less depth from an Irish pov also.
Probably not at international level yet, but has time on his side. Has only had one season of regular first team rugby and at 25 is entering an important time of his career.
A big season for him and Connacht. It looks like he will get every chance to impress.
He made his Leinster debut in September 2012 so has already satisfied the residency rule.

Good comeback on the name,
How does one try every 144 minutes of rugby stack up? It's very impressive on the face of it
As in, are they in general from full appearances, or subbing on. Is he consistently playing full matches and scoring one try per 2 matches(ish) spread out over a season, or is it pretty sporadic?

Honest question.
Sorry I miscalculated his scoring rate. It is actually one try every 191 minutes.
Less spectacular but still unrivalled by any Irish forward. Yes there are the exceptions of guys who played very little but scored a few tries. In Munster, hooker Ger Slaterry's 2 tries in 44 minutes action is pretty sharp.
12/13 3 starts 4 sub - 4 tries
13/14 15 starts 12 sub 5 tries
14/15 25 starts 1 sub 9 tries
15/16 5 starts 1 sub 3 tries
48 starts 18 sub - 21 tries. I think he has scored three tries from off the bench in 385 minutes which shows his worth as an impact replacement with a try every 128 minutes.
I like Stander. Got off to a slow start but has really come through. I think he could offer some real competition for the Irish 8 slot in the coming years.

True. I remembered it as the Glasgow game in November was his debut, but he had played a few before that.

As he is six and a half years younger than Jamie you would have to think there will come a time when PJ O'Seasamh will overtake him.
Munster fans will probably think that time will be February 2016 while we will think it will be February 2020.
Anything could happen in the meantime such as Jamie finally getting injured or signing for Toulon.

Imagine where PJ Stander would be (in our hearts) if Penney had actually played him
even with POM & TOD out Munster have a much more balanced backrow without Copeland starting
on form alone Muldowney (IQ) is way ahead of Roux for Ireland
Retired from babbling. Can be found on twittter @okeeffesimon

did Copeland not start on Friday?
he did but the scale of versatility & mobility of Munster's 888 (currently fit) backrow it goes Coghlan JOD DOC2 Stander Copeland
Stander more mobile than Copeland at 8, DOC2 more mobile than Stander at 6

Hard to pick Siege in his first season when you realise he arrived in Ireland at the end of October, broke his hand in early December and picked up another injury in February.
In his second season with Munster and Penney he made 27 appearances
Personally couldn't have Copeland at 6 or 7 but his ability to also play in the second row and others ability to play across the backrow make him a versatile bench option
youve enough decent specialist locks though Chisholm, Foley, Ryan, Holland so Copeland only acts as bench cover when theres a couple of injuries
but jaypers you cant even praise Stander without Munster fans disagreeing
his first season he played 7 of which 4 were starts (for omens they lost all 3 he was on bench for)

Hardly disagreeing just correcting you.
Just pointing out he arrived in the country Oct 30th, unsurprisingly wasn't picked for Nov 2nd league match. He was then picked for the next 2 matches, breaking his hand in the second , missing all of December. He came back played the next four league games for which he was available although he was not selected for 2 HC games before again being injured and returning for the second last game of the season. He we included for every league game for which he was available apart from the last game of the season v Zebre.
The next season he played in 27 of Munsters 31 matches under Penney.

was there not a spat over whether he was fit or not, could be wrong but I do recall there being a debate over he was fit or not or something like Penney saying he wasnt fit but he said he was?
second season 11/27 were from bench

Can you imagine how good a number 8 you would have if you could produce a player that could combine all the "seen" work that Stander does with all Heaslip's "unseen" work.
