A Possible Sequence of Results for Ireland to Win 6 Nations

Post by neiliog93 »

Results needed:

From us: Beat England tomorrow and win our remaining games home vs Italy and Scotland by decent scorelines.

From Wales: Lose against England in Twickenham. Presumably Wales will beat Italy.

From England: Lose against us tomorrow, but beat Wales in Twickenham. Then lose on the final day against a much improved and motivated France in Paris.

From France: Lose away against an improved Scotland who could have beaten Wales, but beat England at home on the final day.

From Scotland: Lose all remaining games except manage a victory at home to France to somewhat salvage the Scottish championship.

From Italy: Nothing, lose all games as expected.

The above scenario would leave the championship to points difference between us and Wales on 7 points, with England and France on 6, Scotland on 4, and Italy on 0. It is admittedly unlikely and takes a few leaps (especially Scotland beating France and us beating England in Twickenham) but I reckon all the other required permutations are actually odds-on.

Given we have Italy and Scotland at home in the final two rounds when they are traditionally weaker, we could rack up a decent score. Wales only have Italy left, and away from home. They conceded last minute tries both tonight against France and at home to Scotland, eating 14 points into their points differential. If the above results pan out as required, we would probably have a better points differential than Wales.

I'll sign up to whatever gives us a day of rugby like that last day of last years six nations.

I was thinking about that combination of results. Our match against England and Scotland v France are probably the two big ones to make it happen.

The last day will be good either way. Even if England have won all four games, the French will be psychotically motivated to stop them winning the Slam.

Yeah I agree us winning today against England and Scotland beating France are the biggest leaps. But it's certainly not impossible. Would be pretty hilarious if we pulled it off.

Oh, oh dear. Well when Van Der Flier went over on 73 mins for 21-17 and they were down to 14 for the rest of the match I started to believe...
