Re: Tour to Japan
No McCloskey isn't a surprise but I'd have picked him myself. Stockdale and ROL the chosen ones in terms of talent out wide and I don't disagree with them being there, but really can't believe that neither Adam Byrne or Sweetnam made it. Think that's a big mistake.
I felt there might be some selections where guys were picked/left out with versatility in mind e..g. Leave TOH out and have Carbery cover 10 and 15 because he's likely to do that during the next 6N or at the World Cup, but would still have expected a young specialist winger to go alongside them.

Ryan likely to be capped before playing for Leinster.
When was the last time someone capped before playing for Province / Club? D'Arcy maybe?

Re: Tour to Japan
The guys who've been brought in from nowhere are all very very powerful. There are others who are relatively new to the squad who are good footballers (like Rory Scannell) but I think there's been a conscious effort to get those powerful guys into the squad.
That makes me think Dillane is pencilled in for the last slot.

Massively disagree with that part anyway, haven't looked closely at the rest.
Or Cronin - wonder if he's long term injured..... Very surprised that Byrne isn't involved as he's been the best attacking wing in Ireland in my opinion.
Flash ahhhh ahhh, he'll save every one of us
Re: Tour to Japan
Disappointed for Buckley, Sweetnam and Byrne. I think Sweetnam is ready for this level and Byrne would benefit massively from some Joe time.
Possibly also a missed opportunity in not bringing Ross Byrne for a bit of exposure - especially considering ROG is linking up for the USA stint. I'd suspect Rory Scannell is 3rd choice 10 in case of emergency.

Re: Tour to Japan
Strauss, Roux, Gilroy and Trimble seem like the big drops. Dont think Holland falls into that and Ryan obviously exiled. Bealham makes it as the 5th/two sided prop
Sweetnam feels like the glaring omission to me especially considering theres no one in the panel that starts at 14 for their province
No residency qualified players for what its worth

Re: Tour to Japan
Wonder who will capt the team, presume it'll be ruddock as very few experienced leaders.
Maybe leavy an outside bet

Re: Tour to Japan
Anybody know what time Japan games kick off - they're listed as 0600 and 0640 GMT. Excuse the ignorance but are we on GMT or (hopefully) an hour later. USA game kicks off at 2200 GMT
