Trevor Brennan's son seems to be Conor McGregor.

Excellent first-half from the pack and despite the harsh YC for Aungier (just as we scored an intercept try) our pack played very well in the tight and broken play. A terrible opening 10 mins in the second-half when our backs missed countless first-up tackles which gave them the confidence to score 21 unanswered points 26-17 at beginning of final quarter.

We introduced subs well and settled and then pressured them to get back to 26-24 with 5 mins on the clock. Overthrew a line-out after Sheehan was introduced as hooker and despite playing in their 22, never got the chance to get a 4th try or close out the win.

Overall a good performance from the Squad but they'll feel it's one that got away after 75% possession in the first half. France will improve during this tournament and have some excellent strike runners and a guy who could be Basteraud in the centre.

Overall it was a decent performance. The pack fronted up very well but the backs didn't create much, although they played well. Real shame about the lineout at the end because they were dangerous going forward and the French were tiring too so gaps were opening up.

Considering Jack O'Sullivan, O'Tool, Kelleher, Curtis, Sullivan, James French and Charlie Ryan were all injured, losing by 2 points to the home team isn't a bad result at all. Just one of those might have made the difference.

Disappointing result but good performance for most of that game. What's becoming clear now is Ireland are lacking fitness. In the last 20-30 mind of matches especially compared to the likes of England and SA. Like the France match, the errors increased dramatically after half time.

Ireland dominated for the first 50 minutes but only had a 5 point lead to show for it thanks to some blunders including Roche dropping the ball when over the line.

Some of the attacking play was outstanding in that period. They were really cutting through the SAs at times. The forwards linked well and I thought Dean added something to the attack. He needs to improve his passing but the attack was going very well and he varied things nicely.

Doris and Barron were the best of the forwards. They stood out but the whole pack played well with the big exception of the scrums. The scrum probably cost Ireland the game as much as the earlier errors.

The wingers were poor. Roche blowing the try and Sean O'Brien doesn't look up to standard at all. He needs to improve. I presume James McCarthy and Sullivan will get a start in the next match. McCarthy looked very sharp when he came on. The centers played well I thought.

So a big match against Georgia to come. Ireland should look to freshen up the team. They have to rotate a bit.

There may have been more poorly coached teams in the history of irish national representative rugby in the professional era, but I'm struggling to remember one.

Doesn't that mean we don't qualify for the next tournament?

No. Means we go into the 9th-12th play-off. Lose both games in that and we'll be relegated.

Looks like it'll be Georgia, Ireland, Scotland* and Japan in that grouping.

* Scotland are playing England this evening. Assuming they lose that we'll be playing them in the next match.

The subs made a big impact. You could see from minute 1 that the team were looking lifeless. Not enough rotation especially in the front 5. Starting 5 players in the pack in every game makes no sense when theres very little time between games.

Barron, Dunne and Doris the stand outs up front again and Cormac Daly made a big impact when he came on.
O'Sullivan, Tommy O'Brien and to a lesser extent Dean were the pick of the backs. Harry Byrne was good when he came on.

I thought last years side were bad at defending but this gang takes the biscuit not to mention the very blunt attack where Doris had to do it all himself. :?

Ah, they're a bit better than the Peter Malone coached U20s. Tom Tierney's women's team didn't look too hot at the world cup either

After which he was, bizarrely, appointed defense coach for the u20s, until he got the toe end before the tournament

Also, the forwards coach has never coached before professionally. Which is just what you need to develop elite level players!
