Initial assessment of Ireland.

RK: was fair, until you contrast him against his opponent, when he became good.
Conway: very good in attack and defence and made an impact.
Henshaw: my MOTM and was superb in defence & creative in broken play.
Aki: a great defensive debut, very disciplined & strong. Quiet in attack.
Stockdale: an excellent debut and belongs at this level. Now in possession.
Sexton: as narky as ever but directed and executed a very effective game plan.
Murray: another masterclass of involvement & management.
Church: superb display in scrum and did nothing stupid in open.
Best: well worth his continued presence. Excellent at scrum & breakdown.
Furlong: another trojan performance in every aspect.
Dev: a hidden gem who gets more effective by the year. Great tackling.
Henderson: carried and tackled with SouthAfrican type strength. A real 2nd row.
PO'M: ordinary in tackling but good in line-out. Pushed defensive line up hard.
SO'B: big workload in attack in defence and a half-yard off his best.
CJ: still looks under-powered this year but a really smart defensive display.

The Bench all contributed well and were effective in last quarter in attack and defence.

Thought Stockdale shaded the MOTM today in a team performance where a the new guys gave Joe some things to think over before the 6N.
Sweetnam, Conway, Aki, James Ryan, John Ryan and Carberry for example should have the players in possession looking over their shoulders for selection.

The more one looks at the teams, the more concern exists that we may not have enough sources to get enough ball to put pace on the game. If this turns out to be a series of set-pieces, we may not have the ammunition to put enough points on the board to beat this team of 'beeg stroong meen'.

The referee will be key. The sod will be wet but no wind. How quickly will he blow the tackle / breakdown? Will he have a very technical approach to the maul? How will he handle competition in the air?

Sexton's kicking will be better than Janties and Murray wil overshadow his opponent but will that be enough? Not to my way of thinking.

I think we have more resources than we have had in a long time with a lot of players with different talents and styles competing for places. The tricky bit for the brains trust that runs the team will be picking the right combinations for the various games and adapting the style to suit the opposition on any given day. This means that provincial hats should be hung behind the door of the committee room or wherever they are picking the team and the best possible 23 players should make up the match day squad for any given game

I think my favourite bit of skill in the whole match was Sweetnam's pick up (and retention) leading to Stockdale's try, fantastic moment.

Overall highlight of the day though has to go to ROG for comparing Zebo to Neymar!
