Stats help in getting a clearer view of the big picture.
If you're looking at stats alone, they can be intentionally and unintentionally used to mislead people. Governments use carefully selected stats all the time to "prove" how well they're doing.

More or less what I was getting at, when I said asking the right questions and JS' ability to do so in my earlier post.neilinboston wrote:I asked a friend, who was responsible for implementing statistical research at Harvard law, what stats can tell...
He said ‘nothing, without a good question.’
Stats in my hands are pointless, I can find you a million meaningless correlations. But you don’t have to be Nate silver to be able to use them effectively.
Your mate knows what he's talking about he put it perfectly, a lot clearer than I did (in my defence I did admit to my ignorance regarding a good understanding of stats etc).
"Nothing" unless you know what you are talking about and ask the right questions.
In JS we trust - to ask the right questions.

First lineout called to Ryan. Clean as a whistle. Then a steal.

Nigel is being very generous with them at the breakdown.

Ridiculously so. Giving players penalty turnovers when they've not released or are off their feet. The last ruck penalty should have been a card too.ronk wrote:Nigel is being very generous with them at the breakdown.

Too many forwards taking the ball standing still.
Run on to it.
Run on to it.

Can’t see for years now why Kearney is still on that team. He’s useless. Also we need to give Johnny a rest and try Carbery. Jonny’s added value is not what it was. He still tackles but has no pace and does not break anymore. With all the possession we had we are entitled to see a lot more results.
