interpros are not and would not be light years ahead of AIL. AIL is nothing like you suggest and you are being extremaly unfair to the league and dismissive of the high standard of the league.
RTB has coached [and managed] at Div 1 level of the AIL.

The AIL is one of the shibboleths of Irish rugby – you can't say anything bad about it. Well, some of the games are good and some of the games are sh*t, just like any other competition.
Ah interesting.
I still wouldnt be as dismissive of the league. Celtic Cup/interpros only go so far especially some of the interpro games that were on this season
Wouldnt put them as light years ahead.

http://www.rugby.com.au/news/2018/12/08 ... u19s-match

Full U19 match Vs Australia. Australia won 17 - 5.

Strange match. Ireland with all the possession but Australia were much more clinical. It was a closer match than the scoreline suggests

It was ruined by windy conditions and that suited Australia (imo) who were the bigger side.

There were some good individual performances from Ireland. The front row were very good. Scrums and lineouts were excellent overall except when the sub tighthead Winnett came on.

Kelly in the second row had a good game and Deely was lively when he came on apart from one or two handling errors.

Openside, Booth, was excellent and won numerous penalties at the breakdown. Big No 8, McCann was also very good. Best Ulster back row prospect I've seen in a while.

None of the backs stood out but it was a hard day to be a back.

It was a bad tempered match with both teams screeching in each others' faces when the other side made a mistake.

Reasonably competitive game this afternoon at Donnybrook with the Irish U.20 Squad beating a Leinster Development Squad convincingly on the scoreboard, but less so in the contest.

Overall, the impression was that Ireland has a decent collection of underage footballers with very competent skills but, not necessarily a lot of shape on their game as yet. A few of the players have already established good reputations and a few more enhanced their selection chances for the 6N and JWC2019.

Never like to single guys out at this age level on the basis of one viewing, but looking forward to seeing how they develop as a group. @mildlyinterested has a very good handle on the various players in this group and has analysed many of the contenders previouly in this thread and the Leinster Academy thread.

The IRFU Match Report of the game is here:

http://www.irishrugby.ie/news/43174.php#.XB0fg-ynyUA

Watching with a couple of other old heads, we weren't particularly impressed by the patterns or structures of either group. The Ireland Squad looked physically stronger, but the Leinster scrum was well superior. The Irish backline had buckets of pace but were a bit clueless how to use it.

The basic handling and tackling skills were awesome as were the levels of fitness. Really good passing by all half-backs, but not enough control or shape on the game by either side.

BTW, Leinster included a couple of Ulster and Exile players, at the request of the Irish selectors. However, no sign of Baird or Penney on either team and these two guys would be expected to automatic first choices.

Fogra: One player who created a very favourable impression in his 12 minute cameo was Leinster U.19 second-row Cian Prendergast. Good build, excellent handling and carrying skills and knew how to use his athletic frame to complete the Leinster scoring

Interesting to hear on the Leinster scrum.

I believe Baird is injured, has been struggling with his health all season, which isn't uncommon at that age when he hasn't stopped filling out. Hopefully he get on top of it for the 6 nations.
