Beirne backrow sub again, have a feeling he could go and play more in the backrow than the second row. Byrne kicking game (once he kicks more than Murray) will be important against the rushing England defence, wonder how Cokanasiga is under the high ball.

Wales targeted him hugely as the game went on last week and got a fair bit of joy from it.flustered wrote:Beirne backrow sub again, have a feeling he could go and play more in the backrow than the second row. Re: RWC 2019 Warmup Games
Quite surprised by a lot of that team. I'm guessing that it's a good sign if you're involved again after the Italy game, so strong indications that Kleyn, Jack McGrath, Luke, and Conway will travel IMO. It's a bit more complicated with Beirne (given the competition and the fact that he won't have started) and Carty (because you'd imagine that Ross' start against England would be worth more than his sub appearance against Italy) but I suppose it's all guesswork anyway.
Surprised not to see Kilcoyne and Conan yet, unless they're injured? Same with Marmion, really thought he'd be involved ahead of Luke. Less surprised about James Ryan given that he seems to be able to get up to speed quickly and is assured of his place in the team.
This is going to be really difficult given that England should be way ahead in terms of preparation after the two games they just had, but one guy who I think really needs to step up regardless is CJ. If he doesn't look sharp from the get go then I'd pencil Conan in as the starting 8 in Japan. I think he deserves his shot at getting back to form but he's one player who I think we need to be ruthless with.

Actually if Addison isn't involved then it's hard to see him getting in so Conway really does look certain to travel.

Re: RWC 2019 Warmup Games
Is Jack Mc still officially a Leinster player?
13 Leinster-born players in that 23 Just 3 each from Munster and Ulster, 1 from Connacht.

Leinster also targeted him a bit in the Rec when we played Bath. The decisive penalty in the game came about as a result.LeRouxIsPHat wrote:Wales targeted him hugely as the game went on last week and got a fair bit of joy from it.flustered wrote:Beirne backrow sub again, have a feeling he could go and play more in the backrow than the second row. Joe loves big backs. So he'll take Farrell and it's Conway v LarmourLeRouxIsPHat wrote:Actually if Addison isn't involved then it's hard to see him getting in so Conway really does look certain to travel.

Re: RWC 2019 Warmup Games
World Rugby can confirm that Nigel Owens (Wales) will replace Jaco Peyper (South Africa) as referee for Saturday’s test match between England and Ireland at Twickenham.
With referee preparation and welfare paramount, the decision was made after significant flight disruption meant that Peyper would not arrive in the UK before Friday morning.
As a result, Andrew Brace (Ireland) replaces Owens as assistant referee for Scotland versus France in Edinburgh on Saturday.

Cool. Will the English start calling him O'wens now as well as the Welsh?

Does that mean the All Blacks are happy that he has enough games under his belt?Dave Cahill wrote:World Rugby can confirm that Nigel Owens (Wales) will replace Jaco Peyper (South Africa) as referee for Saturday’s test match between England and Ireland at Twickenham.

Very strong English side. I know they have a tough group so need to be ready but they could be wrecked by the time the QFs come around. I suppose there's no right or wrong way to prepare though, each method has its risks.

There's only 13 Leinster BORN players if you count Jack Carty as being born in Leinster. And if so then there are no Connacht born playersbackrower8 wrote:Is Jack Mc still officially a Leinster player?

Re: RWC 2019 Warmup Games
I am pointing to the number of native players that the different provinces are producing at the national team level. I know one “23” selection is just that. I would consider Carty a Connacht native and product of that province’s systems (more than any other). Any which way, Leinster is excelling for now.Xanthippe wrote:There's only 13 Leinster BORN players if you count Jack Carty as being born in Leinster. Re: RWC 2019 Warmup Games
The match-up on Saturday in the scrum will be a significant element in the game. England have their Quins / Sarries front-five, with Marler in for Mako who's on the bench. We have our automatic front-row but a brand new second-row of Hendo and Kleyn. Reports say that Hendo has been pulling up trees in training and if he and Kleyn can combine effectively in this facet of play, Ireland can limit Vunipola's burst's off the back on England's ball and contain their flankers on Ireland's ball.
England always put huge store in their scrum in Twickenham, as do their supporters. Against Wales a fortnight ago, their scrum did a number on the Welsh front-row and their scrum strength directly led to the first two tries.
The other area the Irish forwards must win is at the line-out maul. We must stop their maul at source. If we can, the English machine will not be running on 6 cylinders

POM weak? He was matching David Wallace in the gym when he was in the academy. His explosive leap gives him an advantage in the air and he is one of the top players in world rugby on the ground.
With their short backrow, I'd fancy POM to be a pest against the English at the weekend.

Re: RWC 2019 Warmup Games
POM is not a natural strength and power athlete in the way Stander, Conan and the entire English back row are.

Re: RWC 2019 Warmup Games
Nominally strongest units in front and backrow. Kleyn getting a serious look but probably was going to need one.
Partnerships with Toner and Henderson so power looks to be on the agenda.
Big game for Ross Byrne, he needs to be given a shot with the Carbery knock. Henshaw and Earls rested.
