Munster 2017 -2018
Just watching the game again now. Lots of interesting stuff. Munster really did leave it behind them. That says as much for the weaknesses of Racing as to Munster’s strengths. Munster were patchy- but Jaysus, Racing looked like a worn out Persian carpet: brilliant patches, but threadbare essentially.
Two players I’d highlight for self-indulgence that hurt them; Peter O’Mahony and Simon Zebo. POM churlish petulance has been highlighted already. Unlike some here, I do rate him as a player- obviously not as high as his supporters do. But his behaviour as captain in conceding that penalty and generally not managing the relationship with the referee well, was... brainless!
But Zebo- he was a poem to selfishness personified. It looked like he was consciously trying to create a showreel. The flicks, spins, kicks, diving... the full Works was there.
Both players are in thrall to their own reputations and attendant cliches: POM to his “leadership and intensity”- Zebo to his “X factor and individuality.” POM can still be a very good player; valuable to Ireland- and invaluable to Munster. Zebo- I don’t think he can change. I think Munster have- by accident or design let the right one go.
They should get five points next week and top the group.

They're having a good whinge about the ref again. It's not the ref (again), it's them. It's their indiscipline.
Ruddock's tackle stats consistently too low for me to be taken seriously as a Six Nations blindside..... Ruddock's defensive stats don't stack up. - All Blacks Nil, Jan 15th, 2014
England A 8 - 14 Ireland A, 25th Jan 2014
Ruddock(c) 19/2 Tackles

All refs hate Munster.
All the D4 media hate Munster (although most of them are from Munster)
The IRFU hate Munster.
That's the way it is, was and always will be.
A complex this big must be nurtured, embraced and constantly fed.

Simon Zebo
Ireland honors:
6 nations championship winner
Munster honors:
It easy to poke fun when he comes out with rubbish, but he is caught age wise between some great players in the autumn of their career and great young players just about to usurp him. He should shut and take the plaudits - and wait for a break glass in case of emergency phone call from Joe.

Don't burn any bridges.
Take the big bucks and lie low when not on the field of play.

Re: Munster 2017 -2018
Alongside the Zebo interview / diatribe, it's worth noting how well they played against one of the three form teams in France. With a minority of possession they created 5/ 6 try scoring chances and took three. Murray and Keatley directed the pace and width of the game well and Farrell, Conway and, in particular, Earls looked very dangerous in possession. Their front five had a very good outing and handled the gargantuan Racing 92 pack very well.
They would be a very difficult opponent to get in the quarter final, for us or anybody in the Tournament and would certainly be capable of an away q/f win.

Re: Munster 2017 -2018
Thats their big problem at the moment, they were ahead with only minutes left to play yet conspired to give away 2 brainless penalties. Murray, Earls (who is in fantastic form) Stander, and Conway can get them in a position to win any game, only for others to blow it. There seems to be an imbalance somewhere, and not just in player ability - poor discipline and the amount of non-game media stuff tells a bit of a tale.Ruckedtobits wrote:Alongside the Zebo interview / diatribe, it's worth noting how well they played against one of the three form teams in France. Hopefully in time the new coach can settle and provide some stability. I'd hope we meet them in the knock outs before that happens! The way things are progressing we have a good chance of playing them again this year in one of the competitions at least.
