Mcphillips looks like he could be a fine player given time. O'Toole too.

They were vocal but that attendance is shocking for a game of this magnitude. I know a lot of supporters are disgruntled at the way Ulster are being run and have issues with Logan but you back your team surely? It's not the lads on the pitch's fault.
Thought McPhillips was excellent as was Gilroy. Marshall, Timoney, Cooney and Stockdale were also very good and Herring defended superbly. You add Hendo, Best, Moore and Jordi into the equation and there's a backbone of a very good squad.

Unless they make significant changes off the pitch (and its not all about Logan, though his position is pretty untenable now) then there will be no upwards.

Changes are needed alright but you'd hope they are at the bottom of the curve at this stage.
IRFU set to prevent Ulster from signing Springbok out-half

Ulster are understood to have explored the possibility of bringing Springbok out-half Elton Jantjies to Belfast only to be met with a lukewarm response from the IRFU.
All Black Charles Piutau is set to join Bristol this summer, freeing up a place for a new import at Kingspan Stadium, and the northern province have been on the lookout for reinforcements in the No.10 jersey since Paddy Jackson had his contract revoked by the IRFU after being acquitted of rape in March.
They began last season by bringing in Australian Christian Leali'ifano on a short-term deal but, after a similar move for former All Black Stephen Donald fell through, finished the campaign with only Johnny McPhillips as a specialised 10.
But it is believed that the possibility of signing Jantjies has been met with reluctance.
The IRFU must sign off on all players and favour Ulster recruiting an Irish-qualified signing to aid the national side's preparations for next year's World Cup.
Leinster's Joey Carbery is back-up to Johnny Sexton at Test level but has played little rugby at 10, instead being selected at full-back.
The 22-year-old has seemed reluctant to move north despite the promise of more game time and, if he does leave, Munster now seems a more likely destination next season.
Jantjies has been South Africa's starting out-half for much of the two years since Ireland visited in 2016, although he did lose his place to Handre Pollard last November.
A playmaker rather than a game-manager, the 27-year-old represents the Lions in his homeland, but his present deal runs only until the end of the Super Rugby season in August.

There's an unjustified victim complex in Ulster re. the IRFU, but this is wrong. They should be allowed sign an NIQ out-half for a year or two as an interim stop-gap while McPhillips and Curtis develop. The former in particular looks a very promising player but there is nobody backing him up in the senior squad.

Said it from the start: Ulster don't need Carberry. Just as we and he are getting pushed into his going up there against both our and his preference the pressure is on them to accept him. They need an NIQ available in the international windows. They need an experienced signing.
There was also a rumour of Pienaar as a player/coach to next season but that knocked on the head as well.
I don't think it is fair on anyone trying to force Carbury up here as I he does come it would be down to himself what he learns with no one senior to give advice.
