Good to see him getting game-time and scoring tries, but it's not happening at the requisite level for a guy his age. He'll be 25 before the end of the season, so he really needs to make his way to the Premiership next year. With Rotherham currently sitting in 8th place, that will necessitate a change of club. Dave McSharry, who's a player in a similar mould, is more than a year younger and has Heineken Cup experience. Chris Farrell is 4 years younger and, but for an unfortunate injury this season, would probably be featuring regularly in the Pro12.

Encouraging signs from Sheridan, but he still has an awful lot of catching up to do.

He was born May 1989 [source: http://www.leinsterrugby.ie/profiles/ac ... ef=dynamic ], so he'll be 24 before the end of the season, not 25.

The issue with Sheridan was always injuries – as far as I've heard there was never any serious problem with attitude or ability. Two years, four tournaments and 16 caps for the Irish U20s [12 starts] would suggest that he's well worth keeping an eye on.

The guy suffered three season ending injuries/conditions in three years: osteitis pubis [the Paul O'Connell injury], then a badly fractured ankle [source: http://www.leinsterrugby.ie/newsroom/8285.php], then a ruptured ACL in the last of the 2011-12 pre-season games [source: http://www.leinsterrugby.ie/newsroom/8332.php ]. None of those are linked injuries, he has just been extremely unlucky.

Fionn Carr's contract is up at the end of the season, and whatever about his first season [where I felt he put in a lot of work and didn't necessarily deserve some of the stick he got] his second season here has been mediocre; poor, even. His confidence seems to have deserted him, and as a winger he's a bit of a one-trick pony. Sheridan has played across the backline from 11-14 for Rotherham this season and seems to be scoring a reasonable amount of tries, so he's got versatility, adequate pace ... and he's also a big, big monster.

It's a winter league, and if you've got two runners – a No8 who can break the gainline and a No12 who can truck ball up and create a target for the forwards – in your squad, you've got two lads who will be very, very useful [and used] over the middle part of the season, especially in November and February when the weather is sh*te and your internationals are away. I think he's well worth keeping an eye on.
