Yes, we can play the Heiny at the Crisp bowl and you can defend your Amlin at Welford Road
Re: Heineken cup 2014 venue change
I cannot imagine anything clever being done with the venue. It will probably be a case of an old reliable to haul their ass out of the fire. Would love to see some new venues being looked at but the issue is ticket sales. You need a big local rugby public to take up some of the tickets.
If we had enough time we could have tried it as a test run for a WC bid and held it in Semple Stadium. I think a HC final might do something positive for the economy of Thurles.

While you play with your Heiny we will get on with the rugby.tigerburnie wrote:Yes, we can play the Heiny at the Crisp bowl and you can defend your Amlin at Welford Road
Re: Heineken cup 2014 venue change
Was thinking Leicester might be a good host city. Nottingham is also a possibility, the County ground at Meadow Lane already hosts Nottingham Rugby and the Forest ground is a five minute stroll across the river. The general area also boasts the cricket ground and as a consequence there are loads of pubs and restaurants in the area. The fan area could be located in West Bridgford just down from the Forest ground. All of this is a ten-fifteen minute walk from the city centre.tigerburnie wrote:Welford Road?(so we can have a home final for a change................)

Surely the simplest and best way to select the alternative is to reward the countries that have put most into it and have been the most successful as a result.
As France has passed the baton for 2014 this would leave Ireland in pole position.
Why not give the Amlin to Ulster and the HEC to the Aviva?

I see you've already erased this season from your memory....Oldschool wrote:Surely the simplest and best way to select the alternative is to reward the countries that have put most into it and have been the most successful as a result.

They'll be waiting for a dip in rugby coverage for it won't they. So not until the lions is out of the way. If they were in a rush though wuldn't they have done it soon and we'd have heard a leak by now.......English ror - rorc. Or Welsh ror - lllllllrorwyn

Bringing the existing schedule forward by a year seems the simplest answer
Re: Heineken cup 2014 venue change
Both way too small. The City ground and Walkers stadium are only 30,000 or so.domhnallj wrote:Was thinking Leicester might be a good host city. Re: Heineken cup 2014 venue change
Surely too soon to go back to either London or Dublin. Also it's probably too short notice to bring it to Italy or somewhere leftfield as soon as next May.
Cardiff has had in 1996, 1997, 2002, 2006, 2008 and 2011. It's a great venue and all but it's sort of overkill.
Edinburgh has had it only in 2005 and 2009. It'd get my vote with Tynecastle or Easter Road to host the Amlin Cup final. Either of those stadia has the right profile with 20,000 and 18,000 capacities respectively.
18 finals have gone to:
6 Wales
4 England
3 France
3 Ireland
2 Scotland
Murrayfield the obvious choice for next season in my opinion.

Realistically Glasgow have a chance of making it, whereas no Welsh team have any prospect. Millennium there has been overkill.
Stadio Olympico would be good for the game also

I agree but Kingston park is miles out near th airport - not as bad as say High Wycombe but still takes you out of town and feck all amenities when you get there (was at the championship game recently and it took ages to get a pint in the stadium too).mtleinster wrote:Give it to Newcastle

HC final will be in one of the venues that we have won our last 3.
My preference would be Twickers as hotels are already gone in Cardiff. Then again you can always stay outside Cardiff and get a train.

Shame the opportunity to think outside the box with an Amsterdam, Barcelona, Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester, etc etc option being looked at.
