Northern Hemisphere Coach of the year award

Post by tigerburnie »

Goes to............................................................
Meanwhile, Cockerill has been awarded Rugby World magazine's northern hemisphere coach of the year award after guiding his side to a third title in five years. He beat Vern Cotter (Clermont), Rob Howley (Wales) and Joe Schmidt (Leinster) to the prize.

The world's biggest-selling magazine said of Cockerill: "He's bluff, has no airs and graces but, most importantly, he's a winner."

Couldn't have happened to a nicer chap :D

Ha!

Actually surely that should have gone to Matt O'Connor as he is the actual Head Coach, Cockerill is a director of rugby or something isnt he?

schimdt won his domestic league and won a european trophy he should have been above cockerill imo but the castres coaches Laurent Travers and Laurent Labit would have got my vote

cockerill is a flat track bully who gets found out when he faces sides with a similar budget as his

TBH _I'm a bit disappointed Dekko didn't get it, as it would have put the award into context.

His media personality is like the anti-Kidney. But I've always found him all sauce and no meat! Magazines like that!

Written by his mom I presume.

I actually don't have much of a problem with his actions in the AP final. I though Northampton were getting away with quite a lot of cynical behavior and if the ref wont defend their players, he has a right to express his anger (in the right way to the right people). I'm assuming he spoke in an appropriate fashion to the 4th official.

I think its the other 99% of times that he comes across as a complete arse.

the guy is a clown. average player with a big mouth , now a good coach with a bigger mouth.

Always the first to blame the loss on every one else, undermined lofreda and gives officials a terrbile time.

All in all a very bad role model for any yongster wanting to become a coach.

There is a lot to admire about leicester as a rugby team (will to win.big fanbase, the way they looked after matt hampson) sadly there is also a lot to dislike and cockerill certianly falls into the later category

You've got the wrong "short bloke" in the frame there, the one who "allegedly" stabbed Marcello in the back was jetisoned a long time ago.
Granted he does give the officials a hard time, diplomacy he ain't.

We all heard the stories of "cockers" laughing at lofreda accent and undermining him during his period at the tigers. As for diplomacy his outburst at refs is tired and boring and his whinge fest vs botha was a corker as well. No to mention his "poor us we have no money" nonsense when you have a huge squad and a massive wage bill and have no qualms in taking players from other less well off english sides is laughable , the guy is giving your club a bad name.

Still what goes around comes around and he will get the ban he deserves one day :)

Cockerill isn't a bad coach but Leicester didn't do anything special. They beat and imploding Northampton side and Harlequins at home.

So Cockers has been given a 9 match ban for naughty swear words, you better let Matt O'Connor know, just in case.

According to the BBC MO'C was acting as Cockers wingman for that particular episode during the EP final. He is out of the jurisdiction of the RFU now so perhaps was why he wasn't pursued? In any case I hope he has more manners in his new post.

Given the panels comments I think he'll do well to get that ban lifted.
