Rabo pull the plug

Re: Rabo pull the plug
I would hope that a new sponsor would be announced soon and that it will be a significant name. A Heineken level name is required. Peroni would be interesting and cover the Italian angle.
There is a need for a shakeup of the format. A second div or some way of accessing additional markets is the key. The more fans we can access the bigger the tv money we can look for. If you are a fan of a second div soccer team in England I would guess you would still watch premiership games as you are a soccer fan and that is where a lot of the big games are. I think the same follows here. If Spanish, Georgian etc teams were involved there would be interest in the first division in those markets.
It would be costly and difficult to get off the ground but if done with the backing of a big name sponsor then it could work.
Whether any of that ever happens the bigger problem is fixing the standard of the current competition. Like any league the top teams dominate but the problem is the lower teams are just to far off the running and there are very few upsets or close run games. With so many first choice guys missing from Leinster over the international window there is no way we should have been able to pick up so many bonus point wins.

RTÉ's dismissive attitude to the league was far from beneficial when it came to promotion.

I like your right leg. A lovely leg for the role.
I've got nothing against your right leg.

The TAP12?
Is there any interest in rugby in Turkey. It looks a bit like another Rabo, a nice big company giving us cash but not likely to last as it does not have long term benefits for them.
Re: Rabo pull the plug
Etihad were with the GAA for a while(are they still?). Dublin would be a popular location for airlines to base operations out of because of corporation tax and labour laws. Anyway if rumours are to be believed the loss of Rabo is a blessing in disguise as the new deal will supposedly be more lucrative.Fireworks wrote:Why???Broken Wing wrote:The Turkish Airlines Pro 12....simonokeeffe wrote:getting Turkish Airlines as league sponsor according to Indo

Ruddock's tackle stats consistently too low for me to be taken seriously as a Six Nations blindside..... Ruddock's defensive stats don't stack up. - All Blacks Nil, Jan 15th, 2014

They're not selling into Turkey - they don't need to. They are selling TA to Euro markets. TA are trying to get not just inbound into Turkey but also pushing long haul routing through Istanbul (e.g. Asia) - think of the recent ads with international football namesFireworks wrote:Why???Broken Wing wrote:The Turkish Airlines Pro 12....simonokeeffe wrote:getting Turkish Airlines as league sponsor according to Indo

Re: Rabo pull the plug
Yup. Slight difference, though. They were targeting an exclusively Irish product in an exclusively Irish market. The Pro12 is bigger than that. That may not have stopped previous sponsors, but it's not a fair parallel to compare.paddyor wrote:Etihad were with the GAA for a while(are they still?).
Ultimately, it doesn't really matter as long as the money/package is the best on offer.

They're a big international carrier – something like the fourth most destinations of all airlines. The Doc wrote: They're not selling into Turkey - they don't need to. I didn't see this article. Was it in the April 1st edition by any chance?
You know I'm going to lose,
And gambling's for fools,
But that's the way I like it baby, I don't want to live FOREVER!

Re: Rabo pull the plug
Turkish Airlines have been major sponsors of Barcelona and Man Utd to name but two Clubs in the past few Seasons.
They have the biggest international fleet of aircraft, their airport in Istanbul is now one of the busiest in the world with no night-time landing restrictions and is a major hub for East and South travel out of Europe.
The airline is State owned and they want to get membership in the EU. They use all of their international influence to push their political objectives. They have a expanding economy, with some hiccups, and they fly into each of the countries in which the Pro12 teams are located. They also fly to France and England and Georgia, Romania and Russia.
All in all, they look a decent fit as a Title Sponsor and might actually be of benefit to the League and the teams within the league and all of their supporters.
BTW, I believe that an Irish guy, Niall Doherty (ex-Belvo?) was the Director of Turkish rugby (and may still be) in 2012.

But, to be fair, it was originally posted by the Irish Times on March 28th
