Premiership clubs should employ referees - Saracens chairman

Saracens chairman Nigel Wray believes Premiership referees should be employed by the competition's clubs, rather than the Rugby Football Union.
Officials for top-flight matches are appointed from the RFU's pool of 15 professional referees.
"The club game needs to employ its own referees," Wray told BBC Sport.
"Their decisions influence the game enormously. We need to tell them the sort of game we want played - which has to be attractive to the customer."
Wray says he is not questioning the quality of the RFU's referees but believes the same officials, employed by the Premiership's 12 clubs, would be able to help deliver a more appealing product.
He added spectators can be put off by complicated rules, particularly around the scrum.
"Rugby will only get bigger and grow if people understand what's happening," he said.
"If we confuse them, don't expect them to turn up.

"At the end of the day, we're in the entertainment business. We're trying to get the audience who have not yet come - if they don't have a clue about any of the decisions, how are we going to persuade them to watch?"
Premiership officials are appointed from the RFU's Professional Referee Unit, which is the highest level referees can reach after coming through the regional game.
"They can be the same referees, but we need to employ them," Wray said.
"During the week the referees could go into schools, teach, encourage other referees and become full pros."

Is Wray a fu€ktard?? He does know he runs a Rugby Union Club. It is played to a certain set or rules. Why not buy a club in another sport if he does not like the rules. Surely World Rugby would not stand for it.

At some stage we will be able to take a case against the RFU under trade descriptions act because it wont control anything relating to club rugby in England.

On a serious note this just dawned on me. How could English Refs paid by the clubs ref in Europe? Take our group this year how would we take it if say Stuart Barnes who is paid by Wasps and Quinns turned up to ref our game against Castre. How could he be seen as neutral as his actions could have a massive impact on his employers.

Answer to my question is yes. Wray is a fu€ktard.

Unfortunately, he can't afford premiership football.
Declan Kidney is a incompetent, inept, provincially biased rugby dinosaur who is unfit to coach the Irish team.

That doesn't make any sense. If he wants to change the rules to make the game more attractive then the refs are f*ck all use. They just interpret the rules.
Ruddock's tackle stats consistently too low for me to be taken seriously as a Six Nations blindside..... Ruddock's defensive stats don't stack up. - All Blacks Nil, Jan 15th, 2014

Wonder how long it will take Bruce Craig from Bath to stick his nose in and say scrums take up too much time and lineouts are pretty boring as well.

I reckon we should let them off to have their own silly rules in the own silly league - don't reckon it would last long because they'd be at a huge disadvantage when it came to European or International matches because they'd have so little experience of playing with the proper laws.
