Eddie O'Sullivan takes over Biarritz

Big challenge, big job, long time out of the game.
Didn't get an interview for Connacht but apparently had Munster and Biarritz racing to sign him.
Hope it goes well for him.

Best of luck to the guy. Crazy that hes been out of the game for so long.

I wonder will we now see Biarritz becoming a haven for Irish players?

Good news! Best of luck to him.
Re: Eddie O'Sullivan takes over Biarritz
Absolutely delighted for EOS. Sadly his last two seasons tarnished what was otherwise a hugely significant contribution to Irish rugby. Some might say we should have won more under him, but three or so triple crowns with a splash of misfortune and I think he brought Irish rugby forward a long distance. He should have stepped down after the world cup, it all went very stale at that point, but I think there were many factors at play there, not least tension in the Irish camp.
Undoubtedly though, the Irish national team played some of it's best ever rugby under EOS, culminating in the 2007 six nations, we were phenomenal, shame that the promise from that made the world cup campaign all the more dreadful.
He should have got the Connacht job, but Lam is turning out to be half decent in terms of his reputation alone, and Connacht improved in the second half of the season. I wouldn't have been disappointed if he got the Leinster job this season, but best of luck to him, I think he's an extremely good coach and can definitely turn things around, not sure how much of a poison chalice it might be, but I think Harnordequi (sp?) is staying on and maybe he can convince Yachville to give it one more season too.

Delighted for him, as said above he missed out on a lot of credit that was due. Much rather see him back in a Head Role than working under Foley in Munster.

I never saw that happening. Foley still has Gatland on speed-dial.future international wrote:Delighted for him, as said above he missed out on a lot of credit that was due. Much rather see him back in a Head Role than working under Foley in Munster.
Good luck to O'Sullivan anyway, hope it goes well for him.

I hope that he wins the full bag of chips over there, because, as they say, the fella who uses the top two inches in the championship minutes to work the football past the soft shoulders into the redzone will ultimately be the top banana with the success ratio of the small margins that give you the big payday at the heel of the hunt.

He's a very good technical coach, he's just very very difficult to work with and a complete control freak. Hope he's learned from his mistakes because he knows his stuff!

There'll be fellahs running out of the Biarritz 22 with their hair on fire. But in all fairness, you can't unring a bell

The English speakers in the squad will probably assume he's talking Basque.

We need to park this and move on lads, you need to squeeze out the pips before you suck on a lemon because Biarritz are a different bag of hammers.

I'd completely forgotten about Eddies turns of phrase, the OG honey badger, Nick Cummins bedamned.
