Stephen Ferris Retires
What a player and such a great loss to Irish Rugby.
May I wish him the very best in the future!

It's been coming but still very sad. Was a great player as it was and but for injury could have been one of the all-time greats!
Good luck to him in the future!

Re: Stephen Ferris Retires
Devastating news but as Donny B said it was coming. Great player, was an integral part of our grand slam team and Ireland beating Australia and formed one of the best back rows in world rugby with SOB & Jamie. Goodluck in the future, it was a pleasure watching you play. Hopefully Genia can now stop having the nightmares about him

He may have been completely detached from the scrum but this was a huge moment in the game and just one example of his sheer strength and power.

Gutted about this, one of my favourite players ever. Such a freak physically, can only think of a handful of players who had his power and acceleration. The Genia tackle and his first bit of action upon his recent return will live long in the memory. Hope that he's not crippled with the injury and wish him all the best for the future.
P.s. Ichabod, I love your username! I'm probably only a handful of people who'll get the reference!

What a player! Will be missed and as already said, the best of luck to him in the future.

Sad but not unexpected news. A great player. My favourite non-Leinster player. Good Luck to him in the future.
Re: Stephen Ferris Retires
AT least the guy has had plenty of time to consider his fate post-rugby. He must have known for a while this day would come sooner rather than later.
It's terrible to be a sportsman who can't fulfil his potential because the nature of the sport causes his body to disintegrate. There'll always be guys who get injuries and have to retire early, but the physical toll of pro rugby is getting higher and higher (esp the way Ferris played it).
Best of luck to him. A bit like Eric Miller, he was a global force in the game early on and injury stopped him from really getting back to those levels, let alone passing them out. Thanks for the memories, Stephen.

Real pity to see him cut down so soon. Huge loss for Irish rugby. One of a kind athletic freak and an absolute gent.

I think it's the nature of the position, Tom Croft suffers from continuous injuries, SOB has had his fair share, Burger and Elsom too. It's a highly attritional position, even looking at the super 15 during the weekend the way they dive into the rucks, it's a wonder how Ferris is the only one.

If his ankle hadnt have gone his knees would have soon enough, crying shame but its a miracle he lasted this long and theres an argument over whether he was properly managed by club and country a couple of years ago

I think you might both be wrong - there is an s in the middle of the poster's name and Ichabod's Crane is, as far as I know, an Aussie folk bandsimonokeeffe wrote:its the detective from Sleepy Hollow/Headless Horseman AFAIKLeRouxIsPHat wrote:Oh well in that case I didn't get the reference!
