For the non-French observer, the final round of Top 14 games produced the 6 strongest, if not most entertaining, teams through to the barrage.

Clermont, resting the majority of their stars before the European final next Saturday, claimed a home win against La Rochelle, who ended top of the log. The next three were fairly predictable with Montpellier Toulon and Castres emerging but the final slot was balenced between the Paris giants all evening with Racing eventually winning out with a 22-20 victory against Bordeaux.

So Mont P face Racing with the victors going to Clermont in the s/f, whilst Toulon and Catres do battle for the honour of visiting the Atlantic coastal stronghold of La Rochelle.

The top try scorer Waisea of Stade got 14 tries in 28 games, Strettle who missed 12 games was 3rd in the try scoring with 11 tries. Brive's Germain was top points scorer with 324 points, just shy of 12 per game.

Not a vintage Top14 thus far and crowds are also down.

Toulouse finished 12th which seems crazy, but 6 points separated 12th from 7th

T14 playoff system different from P12. The reward for finishing in Top 2 is skipping the 1st round of games. The SFs are played at a neutral venue - this year Marseille.

Best of luck to Clermont in the final tomorrow!

I actually thought it was on this evening so couldn't figure out why it wasn't listed anywhere after I settled down to watch it.

Truely delighted for Les Jaunards. Richly deserved victory and a wonderful defensive display in the last 15 minutes. Well done to Cholmy, Parra and Lopez and all their team-mates.

So, both Joe and Jono sign off with the Top14 ticked off. For Leo, Stuart and Girv, the tape of that Clermont win should be required viewing every evening until next May. You must refuse to be beaten!

There's hope for Mayo yet bygod!
You know I'm going to lose,
And gambling's for fools,
But that's the way I like it baby, I don't want to live FOREVER!

Very happy for the Clermont fans as they are the real thing and add a lot to the games I've been at over there and when they've travelled over here for HC games.

But there's a lot of twaddle out about how Clermont are somehow a French equivalent of Exeter, small town team fighting against the odds and the big moneybags teams like Toulon and Saracens. Clermont is bankrolled by Michelin, just as Boujellal bankrolls Toulon, Lorenzetti bankrolls Racing Metro, Wray bankrolls Saracens, Craig bankrolls Bath etc etc. What's the difference. Clermont wouldn't be able to bring in top overseas players and pay them big bucks without Michelin.

Oh, only got to see the second half of the Top 14 final and was expecting great things based on the comments by the Sky panel at half-time. Well, sorry the second half was the same old grunt and grind we've come to expect from the Top 14, the only difference being that this time Clermont held off Toulon. Like watching paint dry.

Ah it was a fantastic game. The second half wasn't as free flowing but the physicality and general quality were superb. One of the most enjoyable games I've seen all season, particularly loved watching Clermont defend in the last 10/15 mins. They threw absolutely everything at Toulon but Toulon just kept coming. They showed no sign of wilting or bottling it though, great to watch.
