Off the Ball Rugby Special last night

Post by jezzer »

Anyone listen to it?

Very entertaining in spots. The highlight was hearing BOD throw Kidney under the bus, then reversing back over the corpse a few times, with regard to his coaching ability.

Caught a bit. Was interesting to Keith Wood and Eddie O'Sullivan talk about the pressure days of previous Argentina matches.

Will listen to the replay later on today.

Ferris kick the corpse too

Night before the 2003 Argentina game one of the IRFU blazers told Wood it would cost the union 3 or 4 million if they lost and would he pass that message on to the team

You could absolutely imagine that going down. Hilarious stuff. Eddie was very funny on his arse being on the bacon-slicer too. Still buying Quinnie pints for scoring the try.

Felipe was a little disappointing, just a bit too careful with his opinions on Leinster and on Ireland/Argentina. There wasn't much insight given into the Argie camp (and weirdly the lads didn't really ask for much either). Horan was interesting to a point - was funny hearing about their good times in Dublin in 1991 as I ended up out drinking with a few of them as a student and they were great craic (Campo the unsurprising exception - he lived up to his pr!*k reputation).

Yeah I heard it. Got a few digs in there so he did. Didn't hear Eddie or Woody step in and defend Kidney either.

Kidneys record in the 6N after the Grand Slam or "Slam of BOD", was 7wins, 2 draws and 11 defeats. So you could infer that 2009 was a blip, beginners luck or whatever.
But, he did win 2 heinos, 1 GS and topped the group in a Word Cup. Thats an enviable record for any coach to have. Maybe his time was up, but did he have any offers of coaching in rugby after he was sacked from the Ireland gig?

If I were to pick a comparison with another sport I think Mick McCarthy would be about right. Great with second tier clubs, able to work wonders with limited resources. Always found wanting on the bigger stage.

Kidney was a very capable club coach, way out of his depth* with the senior national side.

for way out of his depth* please see shite

I would say Jack Charlton, the game moved on and he didnt; its like Bernard Jackman's quote on his twitter: its about improving faster than the competition

Ferris though seems to be just ruthless in general :)

Eddie would be a good man to provide insight on Blanco's meddling with France from his time with Biarritz

Just paid my first visit to munster fans, they really dislike Jamie Heaslip, and apparently BODs a bit smarmy for not trusting Keith Earls as a 13 and giving out to Peter Stringer for throwing intercept passes.

Real eye opener.

Matt Williams on second captains "revealed" he made the decision not to show replays/further footage of POC injury/lying prostrate

Also claiming credit for Chris Henry's international career (at 7 who played 8 under him)
