Pleasantly surprised
He makes the 23 but Stander on provincial but already 3 backrowers on centrals

If Josh is being offered that much then that bodes really well for the amount of money we have in the kitty.

Disagree with that assessment.

Ryan got a 4 yr (effectively) deal last time around and I considered it excessive but his performances over the past 12 months have justified his National Contract.

Healy, Payne, Earls & Bowe are fortunate to have National Deals at present but they have contributed significantly in the past.

I certainly wouldn't give them away willy nilly and neither Dillane nor Jackson are current starters when all are available. Jack McGrath certainly fills that description and Furlong is getting very close and JVDF is almost within the "must include in Squad" category.

Bowe will definitely come off his
Ryan isnt in the 23 when all are available but also hes going nowhere
Dillane and Jackson make the 23 and also are of a good age/worthwhile tying to long deals, Jackson is in a very strategic position too
would disagree about Payne

Healys one robbed McGrath of a deserved one

Seriously that would be a pretty decent deal for a club after VDF, that is around £270 or there about and is a pretty standard rate for pro players. VDF is young and not at his peak yet so would be a steal for the PRL or Top14 at that price.

Yeah but my point was that the IRFU don't seem to be playing hard ball in a position where we're very very strong. It's not that the contract itself is that amazing. For a start, even if it's the going rate it must be a huge increase in what he's on currently. Famous last words but it bodes well for everyone else who's negotiating. I wasn't looking at it in isolation either, the extra guys being signed by Connacht and Munster would also be an indication of finances being in a good place.

Part of Nucifora's job description seems to be to get rid of expensive imports.
The more he succeeds, the more money that will be available to nurture and incentivise local talent.
Mirror, Mirror on the Wall who's the greatest player of them all? It is Drico your majesty.

Dillane signed a provincial deal but don't think the length was mentioned but it would be two years most likely.

That does not always happen though as part of imports wages have been paid from outside the general budget anyway over the years.
General wage inflation has been a growing problem for IRFU as players have a short career and unless they really want to get Irish caps guys will look to the future and go where the cash is.

Me too. Post 6 Nations I think VDF will definitely be in the frame for the Lions, he's an absolutely fantastic player.
Flash ahhhh ahhh, he'll save every one of us

Depends how much they offer, he could opt for 2 and then push a rise again for a 3

Hope they give him as long holidays as Lucifora gets - 5 weeks in mid-season according to S. Times. Rumour has it no Province could get a decision from the IRFU since beginning of December, except Munster re Taute!

It seems strange that he gets a long holiday right in the middle of contract signing time he is not back to February so think it is actually longer than 5 weeks

Would be the smart move to refuse a longer deal if they're not offering him top dollar (because they know he wants to stay in Ireland and establish himself in the Irish team). Two years down the line, assuming he's made himself a permanent fixture in the Ireland squad, he'll be in a position to push for more.
We're all red on the inside.
