Well he was signed t cover the loss of Kleyn and Foley for the rest of the season - this is exactly what he is doing??wixfjord wrote:Andrew Conway; Darren Sweetnam, Francis Saili, Jaco Taute, Ronan O’Mahony; Tyler Bleyendaal, Duncan Williams; James Cronin, Rhys Marshall, Stephen Archer; Dave O’Callaghan, Billy Holland – capt.; Jean Deysel, Conor Oliver, Jack O’Donoghue.
Replacements:Niall Scannell, Dave Kilcoyne, John Ryan, Donnacha Ryan, Peter O’Mahony, Angus Lloyd, Rory Scannell, Simon Zebo.
So Deysel is a lock replacement is he?

Saili and Taute both starting in centre?! I thought there were reassurances that that wouldn't happen...

You mean he's waiting until they are at a lower ebb?simonokeeffe wrote:latter smacks of Penney & Foleywixfjord wrote:Jaysus both ROG and Jackman would be a serious step down from Rassie.
Couldn't see a ROG with Nienaber scenario working out either.
ROG seems to be taking a very measured/long term eye to his coaching ambitions

Could also be that he feels it's the best centre pairing and hang whatever the IRFU wants. He may be looking at them for the rest of the season (or the big games anyway). I have sympathy with him if he's trying to win an ECC semi final against a side like current champions Saracens.Peg Leg wrote:Rassie has his employers right where he wants them now.Laighin Break wrote:Saili and Taute both starting in centre?! Is it a sign that he's on the way out, so doesn't care about the 'rules' anymore?Lar wrote:Could also be that he feels it's the best centre pairing and hang whatever the IRFU wants. If the shoe were on the other foot, I'd definitely rather have Scannel starting.

Have you a source for that?Laighin Break wrote:Saili and Taute both starting in centre?! I thought there were reassurances that that wouldn't happen...
Just because a post upsets you, that doesn’t mean that it is wrong. People have different views in all aspects of life, this is a key ingredient to an interesting conversation.

I'd have to trawl back through this thread as it was discussed quite a bit before

Re: Munster 2016-2017
am going to have to collude with the enemy here, DOC2 playing out of position at lock and Sucking in the backrow covers the loss of the locks
if POM was playing then DOC2 would probably still be at lock

Aye, and are all of Madigan, O'Shea, McCarthy, Whcyerley, Coombes, Chisholm, Copeland, TOD unavailable too?
What did the Munster press release say when he joined?

Did anyone really believe he was a lock?!With Jean Kleyn already ruled out due to a neck injury, the additional blow to the second row options sees Director of Rugby Rassie Erasmus call on the services of Sharks lock Jean Deysel on a three-month loan.

So your source is some random posters on the internet.Laighin Break wrote:I'd have to trawl back through this thread as it was discussed quite a bit before
That's hardly a reliable source?

Well we were led to believe this was the case by the Munster posters on here who claimed to be in the know.
We now know not to trust those sources. So thanks for that.

Re: Munster 2016-2017
Meh. You could do that.
Or you could just face the inevitable that when a province signs two experienced centres they will actually play them ahead of developing Irish talent if at all possible. I mean, it's what they are paying for.
If the IRFU are happy. and they are paying for this, then they should be happy. And maybe they don't rate some Irish players as highly as most people do. And, obviously, the insider information that was vouched here from Munster posters was just actual pure distilled bullshit.

Re: Munster 2016-2017
What you do with NIQ signings (especially when their versatility was one of the reasons they were signed) when they're in quota isn't the same thing as signing internationals from top countries as medical jokers when you've gone way, way past the quota and promptly moving them to a different position.Timbit wrote:Jesus this is hysterical stuff. They paid the big money to get them, they may as well play them for as long as they perform. But posters here called out the rationale for the signings as being on a flimsy pretext and it's pretty clear that they were right.
Re: Munster 2016-2017
A coach's job is to put the best possible team on the field to get the best possible result for his employers at all times. Rassie Erasmus works within the rules as set down by the IRFU regarding NIQs even if at times it seems a bit close to the edge.
1] Jaco Taute is primarily a centre who can cover other backline positions and has already done so
2] Some people go on about Deysel playing in the back row but players in the back 5 of most packs are interchangeable between back and second rows (back five of pack) e.g. Henderson.

In fairness Nacewa and Kirchner move around to cover injuries or due to squad rotation. This wouldn't seem to be the case with Taute and Sailing starting and Scannell benched.Timbit wrote:Jesus this is hysterical stuff. As mentioned by 433, Munster posters here insisted that this wouldn't happen. Just pointing out that it has happened.
