Because jobs for the boys coaches with no proven coaching ability is partly what got them in to this mess? The IRFU were right to block that stunt.

Leinster, when Cullen was appointed as forwards coach, was in nothing like the mess Ulster are in. Faltering yes, but they had just won the pro14 and were knocked out of Europe by the eventual champions Toulon at the height of their powers. And even then, his appointment was controversial.

His subsequent promotion to head coach was essentially because nobody else would take it. And the IRFU were understandably reluctant to sanction it.

So between Payne, Peel and Pienaar there would be approximately 2 years of coaching experience cumulatively

Not an accurate reflection on Leo's appointmment. He was, after all, the existing Asst Coach.

I presume he was referring to Leos transition from player to assistant coach

No, like Allan Clarke or Neil Doak.

Scotland have bought out Danny Wilsons contract with Wasps as a replacement for McFarland.

That'll be helpful for Ulster so, if Scotland release him

Christian Le'efanou is leaving Brumbies, but heading to Japan rather than back to Ulster, despite the rumours in Oz.

Has signed for Toyota Industries Shuttles. Could return to the Brumbies for Super Rugby 2019 season, as the Japanese Top League season is played mid August to January. Super Rugby season runs from mid February with the final 1st weekend of August.

In respect to Ulster signing a 10, there is a lack of available suitable NIQ 10s out there. Probably will just continue with young McPhillips as starting 10 next season.

I thought Marsh would make a good backup. Reasonable experienced, good passer etc.

Would have been interesting to see what Madigan could have done up North, shame.

Gibbes family have decided that LAR would be best for him in November.

So much for the comments on this site lauding Gibbes as a great bloke.

He was released from his contract because his mother was allegedly Terminally Ill and taking a job at Waikato to be close at hand.
I know that theoretically La Rochelle is closer to NZ but by the time he travels to Paris to get his flight there is nothing significant in the time savings.

Together with Afoa it doesn't show Kiwi's in a very good light.
