Thomond going ahead...
It's not fair...how come they got a nice new stadium and we didn't? I'm telling Mum....
Thomond Park redevelopment gets green light

THOMOND PARK is to remain the headquarters of Munster rugby.
A statement to that effect will be issued today by the IRFU. Negotiations with the residents of what is known as "The Banana Block", on the Ballynanty side of the ground, have been successfully completed and consultant architects are already drawing up plans for the reconstruction of the famous Limerick venue......
The intention is to present the builders with a green field site. It will be appreciably larger than the present ground, which will allow for the erection of a new stand on what is known as the 'far' side of the pitch, as well as ample terracing. The present stand will be demolished and replaced by a modern edifice paving the way for a capacity of 25,000.....
It is hoped to have the new stadium available for the 2008/'09 season.
There is also the likelihood that Thomond Park will house at least one international in August, 2007. Ireland have arranged World Cup warm up matches against South Africa and Italy, and with Lansdowne Road under reconstruction, Thomond Park holds the biggest ground capacity available to the IRFU.

3 more glorious failures for the Liginds in red no doubt......outclassed, out played, but they'll bring 10.000 bandwagon jumpers and the players and the supporters will all be liginds!jezzer wrote: Don't be crazy grumpy - they'll have won the Heineken Cup 3 times by then
Seriously, fair play to their branch for getting this done. Contract that with us. We've shelved our plans for another year before we restart the application process, have nowhere to play next year and our existing pitch is currently hosting mini rugby and beach volleyball. Frankly, we look more than a little bit foolish......

Flash, you're being a little harsh on the LB there (did I really just say that?). Our process has been derailed by planning objections, according to the article the munster Branch haven't even designed their stadium yet, let alone apply for planning at this stage. Once they do apply, we can all object

I am the one who knocks!
A joint development with the RDS is definitly they was to go. Do a paint job on Donnybrook and seats in the stand. Keep Welsey, Bective, Schools Leinster representative matches there with a 5,000 or so capacity. Could even rent it out of a soccer club for a bit of exra cash. Create 2 big stands in the RDS with corporate boxes and the works. 2 tempory or movable stands at either end for the horses. Make it a 15-20,000 capacity. Well i pressume that the LB checked whether the RDS was available next year......but there again, maybe not......We knew Lansdowne was out of action and that the Dustbowl was too small, so you'd naturally assume that they'd checkwhether it was feasible to play there and actually be able to take advantage if the RDS experiment was a success.Grumpy Old Man wrote:Flash, you're being a little harsh on the LB there (did I really just say that?). But there again, these are the guys who brought us Felipe's non-signing, the 500K sandpit, the failled attempts to sign Bob Casey/Simon Easterbuy etc etc 4 coaches in 4 years and lectures on loyalty from DK at player/supporter evenings.
