Newcastle Falcons boss Rob Andrew has named injury-jinxed England star Jonny Wilkinson on the bench for Sunday's crunch clash with Sale Sharks at Kingston Park.


Wilkinson, who has not laced his boots in anger since November, returns after making a full recovery from a groin injury.

Speaking on Wilkinson's return, Andrew said: "He's had the most complete week of training with the team since the injury happened.

"He was very close to being on the bench against Bristol last weekend, but the medical team bought him an extra week just to be absolutely certain.

"All week he's looked very sharp in training, and now it's just a case of getting him a bit of time on the pitch and seeing where he is from a game point of view.

"You have to be careful not to expect to much too quickly, the guy hasn't played for the best part of six months, so let's just give him a bit of a run before people judge him."
