This is still safely wedged in my head years and years later.

Saw Trainwreck. I'm a big fan of Amy Schumer but I've mixed feelings about it. Some very funny scenes especially the cameos by John Cena and an unexpectedly hilarious LeBron James. Overall though I felt it was trying to have it's cake and eat it, trying to show an unrepentant hard-partying woman while also forcing into a traditional romcom storyline. Anyway it's still Judd Apatow's best movie since Knocked Up.

Broken Wing wrote:Director Matthew Vaughan explained the thinking behind the joke in question in an interview with Entertainment Weekly - "This is my Spinal Tap of trying to find 11 with every scene. What happened there was I studied all the old movies, especially the Bond ones. At the end of Moonraker he's floating around in space on Dr. Goodhead and they say "Bond is attempting re-entry". In The Spy Who Loved me he says he's "keeping the British end up." The innuendo is pretty strong and always comes from the man. I just thought it would be great to turn it on its head by having the woman say it. It's meant to be tongue-in-cheek and crazy. There was a lot of debate abut whether to put it in or out. We watched it without the line and it just felt a bit flat."
Oddly for me it's the joke that falls flat and takes you out of the perfect world the film created, it's funny he mentions Bond because if they had of used a bit more of a Bond style wink/nod joke there it would have nailed it.

It's definitely very good and worth a watch but I'm not sure it's the oscar bait film it's being tipped to be.

Bad Words. Not the most sophisticated, won't overtax your brain but it works thanks to Jason Bateman channeling Bill Murray pretty effectively. Plus I just like when people are mean to kids. Do you like It's Always Sunny in Philidelphia? It's that kind of humour.

"Spectre" Too long. Felt as if it was scripted by a committee.

Spectre was a step backwards, after Casino Royale and Skyfall especially took the franchise in a better direction. Plot was thin, villain underdeveloped (a bit like Skyfall in that respect) and I was waiting for Scottie Evil to appear at any point and go "Just shoot the guy! Gimme the gun and I'll do it!"

I'd agree with that

I also thought it shoehorned the Blofeld bit in rather clumsily, much like the 'oh, by the way for no real reason I'm Khan bit in the last Star Trek

Not particularly gone on Spectre but it might have been my fellow cinema goers that were ruining it for me.

Yeah

"btw I'm your 'brother'! Now just a minute and let me set up this overelaborate death sequence".
Too long, tried to cram too much in. They slagged off past Bond movies in Skyfall for stupid gadgetry and next film in they have MICROCHIP BLOOD! In Casino, Bind got in fights and came out looking like he'd been attacked by a bear. has a massive scrap on the train with a giant in Spectre and 5 mins later is in a tux having dinner, unblemished! Very cheesy and corny in a way Skyfall and Casino managed to avoid. Mendes got so much right with Skyfall but seems to have reverted to stereotype.

Saw "Steve Jobs" and rather loved it.

Now I'm not enough of an Apple head to know what's true and what isn't but I just enjoyed the quality cast and the quality dialogue.

Much better than Aston Kutchner's version anyway! :D :D

I'm a fan of Sorkin's style. I've always enjoyed the way he puts his scripts together.
