Spartacus starts off slow but gets better. Loads of over the top blood and a surprising smattering of full frontal nudity. I'm about 8 episodes in and the plot has advanced a bit and is starting to look like more than just swords, sand and sex.
(Topless Xena? How could I say no?)
2nd season facing delays as main lead has cancer unfortunately.

Missed the start of Mad Men. I tried getting into it in the middle of Series 4. But could not see what all the fuss was about. Is it worth the time and effort to go back to the beginning???
“Somedays you're the pigeon, somedays you're the statue.”
There are only 3 series.
I am not a fan at all. But I still watched all 3. S3 gets good towards the end, so you may have seen the best bits.
It is all about the reproduction of the sets etc. That is stunning, if it floats your boat. Characters are weak and storyline is slow though.
I am sure others will disagree, and say it's Tremenjus.
I concur with Johng. Watched the first season, didnt get sucked in, was bored alot watching it thoguh the set pieces were amazing the cahracters and storylines let it down big time. Meh.
Battlestar Galactica (the new version, not the camp 70s/80s version) - have to say it is probably the best series I've ever watched in any genre and strangely many ladies who have seen it agree.
Most people are put off because it's sci-fi but precisely because it's sci-fi it manages to intertwine a holocaust, war, religion (abrahamic monotheism versus ancient greek-style polytheism), terrorism, politics, human rights, abortion, suicide bombings, resistence, torture, what constitutes life, psychological stuff you just couldn't make up, absolutely f*cked up relationships right down to whether it's alright to gang rape prisoners if they're not technically human and the effects of that on the non-technically human.
More blindsides than an Eddie O'Sullivan squad and the acting is brilliant. If so many people weren't afraid of the genre (thanks to those stupid trekkies), it would be rightly hailed as one of the best series of all time in any genre.
The Wire and Band of Brothers are both excellent as well.
Whoa, whoa, easy! How 'bout a "Good afternoon, Derek and Hansel. Thanks for the freak fest last night."
I thought it was muck!
Saw every epp but had to force myself from about half way through season 2. I am a Sci Fi fan. (May be that's the problem) My missus hated it, and she used to laugh at me watching it even though it was torture.
Tried to get her to watch Caprica, no joy. Takes all sorts eh!
I'm with you johng. Too much philosophy and not enough fighting toasters.

Next thing we will have Ronk (Or was it Scott, I mix them up because of their Felipe Avatars) saying that the Shield was good
