I've only seen a couple of episodes of House but it seems very formulaic, someone comes in with seemingly undiagnosable illness, they do a battery of tests which all fail, it ends up being something bizzare and gets cured.

To be fair it is a bit, but it's very well written and well acted by Hugh Laurie in particular.

I've found it enjoyable just not sure I could watch 4 or 5 (or wherever it is) seasons worth.

The way the characters develop in House so is what makes it so good.

gets some flak for being an american version of a hit UK show, but the US Office is absolutely brilliant. Much, much better than the original

Agreed, Tina Fey one very talented lady. Alec Baldwin steals the show though..

Arrested Development.

The Wire is probably the most addictive series ever.

Its been mentioned here, but The West Wing is excellent. Quality series, the outstanding research and script writing make it still not out of date today even though the first series is probably 10 years old. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Ones that others have mentioned that I'd highly recommend:

Band of Brothers
House
Black Books

Would also add:
Yes, Minister/Yes, Prime Minister (if there's a more topical and better written comedy series out there, I'd like to see it)
ER (a great show from start to finish)

Given that the series is almost 30 years old, it really is outstanding how topical so many of the storylines are. That, or the fact that we tend to lag a certain distance behind our dear neighbours as a society. If so, we can look forward to a few more years of gloom followed by a Cool Hibernia in about 2017.

So true. Aaron Sorkin is a writing genius. Was delighted when Rob Lowe got the boot!
