This review in the Irish Times is a few weeks old, but isn't overly glowing.TerenureJim wrote:Anyone been to Sophie in the new Dean hotel yet, looks like they have incredible views (in fact it surprises me that no one has opened a rooftop restaurant in this style before) but haven't heard a word on the food....

My Meat Wagon in Smithfield - a bit on the hipster side but damn fine food, and splendid helpings of meat.

Went to http://www.buenosairesgrill.ie the other night. GF had a deal voucher for 2 people / 2 courses for €32. I had a rib eye steak and the GF added €5 for the fillet. It was just ok. I might go again if I got the same deal but would not pay full price.
I would rather pay an extra €4 a head more for the early bird at FX Buckley.

Heading to Brasserie 66 with a group this weekend have never been there before. Wondering what people thought of it?

I agree with the Hippo on this one. Was looking to satisfy my curiosity on the BBQ style food. Chose this place. Went with Mrs John23 & the heir. Really good food. Large portions. Carnivores only please. John23 jnr contends that it is better foodwise than Pitt Bros., and on a par with Bison but better bang for your buck/euro.Hippo wrote:My Meat Wagon in Smithfield - a bit on the hipster side but damn fine food, and splendid helpings of meat.

Ruddock's tackle stats consistently too low for me to be taken seriously as a Six Nations blindside..... Ruddock's defensive stats don't stack up. - All Blacks Nil, Jan 15th, 2014

Hobarts in Ranelagh is a top notch little greasy spoon spot, fantastic brekkie and the fruit smoothies are the best I've had anywhere a outs. Great place worth discovering.

The new Farmer Browns in Clonskeagh, well worth a visit. Food was excellent and they've done a nice job with the old pub. Huge outdoor space for the current climate.
Re: Restaurant/Take Away Review Thread
Ashtons across the road is way better from both a food and drink perspective.
Re: Restaurant/Take Away Review Thread
Would recommend Ashtons. Didn't realise that one across the road changed to a Farmer browns.johng wrote:Ashtons across the road is way better from both a food and drink perspective.

Me neither. O'Sheas which had been in the same hands since the 60s got into trouble and ended up in Nama. Someone bought or rented it and spent the bare minimum on it to get it ready for the Euros 2 years ago. Inc loads of screens etc. It's not bad at all it's just that the food and drink across the road is top notch.
O'Sheas (Or Farmer Browns as it seems to be now) is bigger and squarer and the space outside seems big but most of it is a carpark. I'd say it gets a younger crowd and is therefore more crack perhaps.
Ashtons has a nice outside bit now down by the river and a big semi outdoor "smoking room"
And no I don't work for them.

If you didn't know it had changed to Farmer Brown's, how do you know the food is better in Ashton's?
Re: Restaurant/Take Away Review Thread

Ah sorry, thought you were saying you hadn't been since it became FB'S. The one on Bath Avenue is always great but haven't been to the others.

1n the 70s there was the Pronto Grill and 2 chippers in Ranelagh. Now there must be 30 or 40 restaurants.

I'd recommend the Bath Avenue one if you're going to the Aviva but it can get really busy on match days and it's pretty small.

I'll 100% agree that Ashton's is savage, possibly a little more formal/older crowd, but really fantastic food
Re: Restaurant/Take Away Review Thread
Agree with all of that. You forgot the mid week early bird.johng wrote:Me neither. O'Sheas which had been in the same hands since the 60s got into trouble and ended up in Nama.
