not much GAA to be covered from October...would imagine there will be oneTerenureJim wrote:It'd be great if we got a rugby podcast once the season kicks off. I know they never really gave huge credence to the Pro12 on the old show generally slagging off "magner's team news" but Rugby does generate press as a professional game and the interest is growing hugely on a season by season basis plus lots to talk about what with new coaches, ERC trouble, finance issues, player movement, returning Lions, and of course BOD's last season.

Rugby has always been a major part of their coverage, no reason to suppose it would be any different this year - especially with Mark Horgan involved

Second Captains format slowly evolving. Hopefully this could replace the void left by iTalk Sport...

Yesterdays SC podcasts are very good. Great to have American Murph back

Haven't heard them yet, I thought the ones earlier in the week were weaker than usual though.Donny B. wrote:Yesterdays SC podcasts are very good. Great to have American Murph back

Haven't bothered listening since the lions ended, I'm sure it's gotta be 90% GAA at the mo, nothing wrong with that just not into it myself.

There has been a good bit of cycling coverage and football transfer stuff.TerenureJim wrote:Haven't bothered listening since the lions ended, I'm sure it's gotta be 90% GAA at the mo, nothing wrong with that just not into it myself.
American Sports have featured and will feature regularly now with the return of US Murph.
One or two interesting feature interviews.

They tweeted today that the Second Captains show on RTE starts Sep 10th - http://balls.ie/news/date-announced-for ... -rte-show/
I like your right leg. A lovely leg for the role.
I've got nothing against your right leg.
The trouble is ... neither have you

I'll be really glad when this format of dressing up a few tweets as a news article will end.The Doc wrote:They tweeted today that the Second Captains show on RTE starts Sep 10th - http://balls.ie/news/date-announced-for ... -rte-show/

Don't know if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but the Second Captains are on RTE2 after the soccer today.

Nope, it's after the match on Tuesday.TheBear wrote:Don't know if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but the Second Captains are on RTE2 after the soccer today.

Saw the ad briefly, saying it was after the match, and I presumed it was today's match.

I saw the ad too. Didn't look great to me to be honest.
Far too gimmicky from the looks of it.

Re: Off the Ball team quit en masse.....
I only just got the chance to watch the first show back on the RTE Player. I enjoyed it. Perhaps I'd have preffered a bit more chat with the guests and a little less of the games element but I think it has legs. I hope it does anyway.
The sport that unites Catholic, Protestant and dissenter has had its day of days. Pity anybody who can't enjoy it. Some day.

The top 10 Irish athletes wall was really silly and pointless.
That was the main thing that struck me.

God the podcasts were terrible last week. What's the point in having two separate football specific podcasts and then spending half the time of one of your two other shows talking about football as well.
Also did they cover rugby at all last week because if they did I must have fallen asleep and missed it. Surely the HEC debate would rank higher in terms of an interesting story ramification wise than the bloody UCI which they seem to have as an old reliable.

I believe they had a piece discussing the Southern Hemisphere dominance of the head coaches on the National and Provincial teams in Ireland - and whether this could lead Joe Schmidt more easily implementing a New Zealand type game plan with the players at his disposal.TerenureJim wrote: Also did they cover rugby at all last week because if they did I must have fallen asleep and missed it. Munster v Leinster derby and Heienken Cup build up will coincide with the winding down of the GAA intercounty season, so would expect rugby to come more to the fore around then in early October.
