Explosions at Boston Marathon

Post by limecat »

Apparently there have been two explosions near the finish line of the Boston marathon, with multiple casualties. Not much concrete information at the moment!

That is awful news. Seemingly it was 3 hrs after the finish.

2-4 reported dead and several people missing limbs . . . and another device found. though it's total chaos down there so hopefully just hyperbole

The multiple devices is not hyperbole. They are doing a controlled explosion on one of them right now

And I've seen some pictures on twitter also. Though not of dead people.

Yeah, no confirmed death yet, but pretty sure some nasty injuries. Hope no deaths end up being confirmed.

Edit
Fox news are the first news source "confirming" three deaths

Boston PD say 2 dead 22 injured.

updated to 23 injured

New York Post claiming 12 dead

Not sure how much to trust the Post though. It's a pretty poor newspaper (most famous for sex and the city, not the TV show, the barely literate original).

This tweet might be useful for anyone who knows any runners in the marathon, if you want to share.

It's the last place you would have expected an attack, hard to see the political angle of the boston marathon. only recent news item remotely politicising marathons is the Gaza one getting blocked over women runners but that is an umlikley link.

soft target i guess. as bbc were just discussing a marathon takes in large parts of cities and it's virtually impossible to police all of it.

Having been a volunteer at the finish line of a marathon I'm in complete shock that anyone could pick that as a spot to make whatever political statement they are trying to make.

Completely agree , hard to imagine how it can be connected with a cause in any way. The finish line of a marathon, especially 4:30 (guess) after the start is a place of apolitical personal achievement -

I didn't know that.

I've not seen a suspect mentioned on Sky or BBC.

The JFK library incident has been downgraded to an unrelated fire.
