the old green leinster kit - what was it like

Post by skelso »

Hi

I have only discovered that Leinster used to play in green (way back).

Does anyone have a picture of the kit or can anyone describe it (ie what colour of green was it (was it like the green of the Irish shirt)? was it plain or did it have patterns/stripes? Was the badge a gold or white harp?

Cheers in advance

Not sure there is a kodak moment, it was in the 1800's as far as I know. There must be a couple of jerseys in a museum though. I'd love to find out more along the lines above (and happy to be corrected on my opening sentence).

I'm afraid you were misinformed, since the inception of representative rugby Leinster have worn blue with a gold Irish harp in stringed in silver. The shade of blue (and the colour and design of the crest) have changed over the years but the colours themselves have been constant

I was perhaps (obviously) not paying attention to my History of Leinster Rugby dvd. Thanks Dave.

Did Leinster not wear a green strip in a pre-season friendly a few years ago?

They did, against one of the Aussie sides in a special 'Green' game - but it was a once off. Leinster, like all the provinces, have worn all the other provinces colours upon occasion when a clash necessitated it

It was some eco initiative. Tree huggers wanted us to go ticketless or summat. Pah!

Last I heard of him was when he was fired as Shannon coach last season (or was it the season before?).

Fired in Nov '12. Wasn't playing at the time either (ankle injury). Not sure if he's played (for Shannon) since, but I don't think so. He's working in financial services.

It was Munster who made their jerseys from the coats donated by their soldier pals in the barracks back in 18something, wasn't it?
