Emma Vs The Beast
Went to the local Lidl yesterday. No bread, no milk and no bleedin chickens. This red alert better be well founded or their's gonna be a lynchin.
You know I'm going to lose,
And gambling's for fools,
But that's the way I like it baby, I don't want to live FOREVER!

It's never wise to use ones initiative in such situations.

My granny used to make lovely soda bread, the real deal.blockhead wrote:Make your own bread?jimbobjoe wrote:Does nobody know how to make bread? It's pretty easy and far nicer than that store bought chyte!

Sadly that was in the sixties, a long time ago but thanks for evoking that memory.

It's worth it. Trust me. And has OS has shared it's worth making different types.. soda, ciabatta, wholegrain, sourdough and many more. Even if it turns out a bit bad it's still far superior to store bought. I love to cook though so maybe not for everyone.blockhead wrote:Make your own bread?jimbobjoe wrote:Does nobody know how to make bread? It's pretty easy and far nicer than that store bought chyte!

I like a nice airy ciabatta usually. This is what I normally use..Peg Leg wrote:Your fav recipe?

I'll use more extra virgin olive oil though for a bit more flavour/richness.
I love a sourdough but can't be arsed feeding the starter.

Don't knock it. I saw the Brennan's rush coming from Monday morning. When I spotted the auld wans swarming I knew it was time to take action. They are our canaries in the coal mine. Strong flour, yeast, water, salt and time. No stampede here.

Re: Emma Vs The Beast
I've got a great recipe for soda bread - nothing like the fresh stuff. Unfortunately the recipe is several countries away from me now, but white flour, salt, buttermilk/natural yogurt and soda in some proportion does it.
