J4 Rugby Metro League

Post by j4rugbyhead »

Hey Guys

Seeing as the Metro J4 League just started this weekend, what about getting a thread going on this ?!

Any of you guys involved the weekend?

any particular favorites at this stage

did many teams go non contest at scums ?

even tho the j4 league was divided into sections based on merit, there sill appears to me some mis matches,

seapoint 76- rathdrum 5 being 1 example

thoughts ??

Some of the groups where stronger than others so the selection processed was slightly flawed. It will take a few years to bed in . Or it should take a few years but it looks like the branch are going to tinker with the pools based on whim like they have with Tallaght

The section C doesnt seem to be seeded at all. Because theres no leinster division 3 2nds league a load of teams have been thrown into this league. Therell be a few serious mismatches. Seapoint seem strong, Malahide and railway played in the J3 league finishing high in there respecitive sections last year and wanders usnt to field at j2(not sur if this is still the case so its there j3 side really. The refereeing standard is pretty brutal at this level so sometimes that evens things out

Was the Coolmine - Clontarf game in Section A really a nil-all draw?

Assume the ref hasn't updated it. UCD won handily, think it was 35-0, all the points were in the first half.

32-0, actually (those three points could be vital  ) Poor that the ref still hasn't sent in the score a bloody week and a half after the game!

Going back to talk of uncontested scrums so far every team we've played bar clondalkin in Section A have either started uncontested (Coolmine/Terenure) or gone to uncontested part way through (Clontarf), we probably have the smallest pack in Section A so would have thought the bigger packs would want to contest against us!

same in div 2 for us, 2 teams doing quite well in league wouldnt contest scrums against us. we have NEVER done this, we have pride in our ability to put out people capable of the playing in the positions they are selected in week in week out. if we are struggling, we train some people up. last weeks opposition had players that were defo front rows (they certainly werent anything else) and wouldnt scrummage. they lost the plot about us doing back row moves also, so in effect they tried to negate our scrum and our plays off the scrum by not contesting. ref allowed the back row moves though.

Think there should be a points penalty for teams who go uncontested, say a 2 point deduction meaning at best they could only get 2 points for a win, should a team wish to go uncontested. Also need to change the backrow move rule so that only the team wanting to uncontested can't do them instead of punishing both teams. Think we'd find very quickly that uncontested scrums become a rarity.

You Marys then? Well when you play against Tallaght, it'll definitely be contested. I see the game's been re-arrnged for the 12/12. I'll miss it as I'll be over in Llanelli  .

Would agree with both these suggestions. Banning back-row moves from the team that wanted to contest the scrums is just penalising them a second time. Teams that don't want to scrummage generally fill their teams with backs anyway so they don't want to do back row moves anyway.

With the weather as it is, I can see another load of games being cancelled this Saturday. Fecking stupid branch insisting that all league games be played in the worst five months weather-wise. When we have the firm grounds in April and May there'll be no games to play!

I'll be in Llanelli. There's talk of playing it on Friday night under lights, which would suit me perfectly!

EDIT: Game on Saturday!! Knew it was too good to be true!! :|

Would'nt be the ref. Those feck*rs all get a text that they have to reply to after the game with the score, then its updated by auto.

With uncontested scrums the only illegal move would involve a number 8 picking the ball at the base of the scrum. The 9 always has to pick and play it in a uncontested scrum situation. What you have to watch for is the number 8 playing scrum half.
