Dear Darce

I am not a member of a club that has access to AIL or ex Leinster players , so i assure you that i am not getting high and mighty , however i have (IN MY OPINION) been the victim of clubs playing bangers against us . This seems to be a regular in cup compitions , where we start a match and manage to get some parity or even the upperhand against a senior clubs J3s , J4s or even J5s , only for them to bring on a player or two that are so obviously above the standard that its just not believable . Yet we are given the standard promises from the opposition manager that "he is coming back from injury "or "he has been re-graded" or my favourite "he is legal, you should have queried him before kick off"
As a junior club player , senior clubs have IMO played bangers REGULARLY IN CUP GAMES. I am very sure that you will defend the good name of your club, insisting that your club has never done this , and you will even be a little insulted by what i am saying !!

However , my opinion stands , and the feeling of been cheated by our senior club cousins remains strong !!

Yours in Rugby .

I don't deny that playing bangers happens.

I too have played for Junior clubs and been on the end of that. I seem to remember play playing Tarf J4's for Unidare and we were winning a cup game 15-nil or 15-5 in Castle Avenue. After half time their bench seemed to swell in numbers and their subs turned the game. They were obviously bangers pull from training that was going on, on their back pitch at the time.

Firstly, what does on term a banger to be? I think a banger is player who plays throughout the season at a higher grade and then is dropped a few grades to play a cup match

What I can say about my club is that there were no bangers in that J6 team. The 2 ex pro's you talk about have only played social rugby in the last few years having been out of the game for a while. More power to them and I think it's good to play with them as you can learn from them in training etc and good to play against them as you can challenge yourself.

I don't deny Blackrock have probably played Bangers in the past. I remember one such being drafted into the Winters Cup Final and it was wrong to do it. I have no issue saying it was wrong.

However, I don't think its right in this instance to say we played bangers in that J6 match.

Here is a solution maybe, if we can designate J5 as developmental standard, then perhaps we could designate 1 cup (maybe J6/Guilfoyle if needs be) where clubs can openly enter "All Start"/"Cup Specialists"/"Legends"/"Banger" teams and let each club duke it out...

On another point, we haven't bloody well got the numbers for bangers this season.

Who were those guys? The HC winner was rumoured to be playing J4s against us last year but it never transpired and I've been racking my brains trying to think who could be.

I must be imagining his six penalties in the final in that case....... where he played at 15.

Michael Jackson is the European Cup winner I think.

Emmet Farrell is the Winters Cup Final 'guest appearance' isn't he?

Jaysus! I've played with a couple of lads who are touching 40 and played a little bit of provincial rugby in the past and they're still a class above so can only imagine how much damage someone like Farrell could do.

Before I say anything I'll nail my colours and say I play for Clondalkin.

Looking forward to this season and playing against the likes of Blackrock and Mary's. We've a lot of new faces up and a few up from the 19's side so it's going to be a tough year but we've the backbone of the squad from last year and I think we gave a few sides a shock and the majority of the matches we lost the margin was only a couple of points. We went on a good cup run at the end of the season and won the Spiers Cup which was a nice way to end the season.

This season will no doubt be tough but I think we have a strong squad and we'll hopefully do ourselves justice. First match against Blackrock in Stradbrook next Saturday at 3pm. Can't say I'm delighted with that though. I thought inter pro clashes were supposed to be sacrosanct? There are 5, I think, ST holders in our squad and I'm sure there are a number in the 'Rock team we'll be playing and we're missing the Connacht match (Or most of it anyway) cause of the timing of the KO. Not happy about that at all!

Leinster vs Connacht

Post by Trippyrez »

Missing most of the match cause the Leinster Branch (in their infinite wisdom) put the J4 ko's at 3pm on Saturday. We're playing Blackrock away so in theory we could be there by say 5:20ish but then I've to park the car etc and that's going to be a nightmare at that time!

Anyone know what's going on with the table? Malahide scored 40 points but didn't score a try?

Perhaps, but since when do you get forty points for a walkover?

Could you not have got the game brought forward an hour or two? Tallaght - Millmount House was brought forward to 2.00 thankfully.

Surely Rock wouldn't be averse to bringing the kick-off forward an hour or so Darce?

Contact Dermot in the Branch FFS and organize to move the KO.
The Branch couldn't care less so long as they get adequate notice and the ref is also informed.
