AIB League Div 1A-Round 6 Preview

Post by happyaslarry182 »

Dolphin (5th) v UL Bohs (7th)
UL Bohemians will come into this game brimming with confidence following their courageous win against table toppers St.Marys in Round 5. In that game they managed to snaffle enough ball with which to release their talented back line who at last provided some much needed scores. However, they will face a stern examination up front against a Dolphin side that is consistently performing week in week out and doesn’t give away too many scores. After qualifying for the Cup semi-finals with last weekend’s victory over Galwegians, the Musgrave Park boys will be eager to continue their winning form and move up the table after a loss and postponed fixture in successive weeks. Much will depend on Bohs ability to stand up to Dolphins bruising pack which boasts a punishing back row in Messers Williams, Coughlan and O’Mahony. It’s a game that both sides feel is a ‘must win’ fixture, but for very different reasons.

Verdict: Dolphin to bully Bohs into submission

Garryowen (8th) v Clontarf (6th)
Garryowen’s form has picked up of late but Saturday’s fixture against Clontarf could be a season defining clash. Defeat this weekend could see their interest in the league seriously damaged on the wrong side of Christmas. Both teams are struggling for consistency with Clontarf slowly starting to find their feet after a disastrous start. As in most cases the lines in the sand shall be drawn up front. No other team bar St Marys have kept more faith in the same front 8 than Garryowen. It’s time they started paying coach Cunningham back some of the faith shown in them. If the light blues can gain parity up front and prevent sharp shooter Martin Dufficy easy shots at goal then they have two of the finest halves in the league in, Gerry Hurley and Conor Murray, to steer them to victory.

Verdict: The light blues to scrape through in a tough contest
