The draw for the 2nd Round of the Newstalk Provincial Towns Cup has been made and is as follows...
· Tullamore v Arklow
· Wicklow v Clondalkin
· New Ross v Mullingar
· Cill Dara v Athy
· Tullow v Boyne
· Newbridge v Portlaoise
· Dundalk v Longford
· Wexford Wanderers v Enniscorthy

Holders Boyne, who received a bye into the 2nd round, open the defence of their crown in Tullow in what is arguably the tie of the round. This is the third year in a row the two sides have met in the Towns Cup; at the same stage a year ago Boyne won 14-6 at home, while the previous season Tullow used home advantage to maximum effect in triumphing 15-13 in a 1st round tie en route to their first ever final appearance.

There are juicy local derbies in Kildare, where Cill Dara host 5-time champions Athy, and Wexford, where the local Wanderers will entertain Enniscorthy, a club that has also tasted ultimate success five times. Leinster League Division 1B leaders Newbridge will welcome 2003 victors Portlaoise to Rosetown while 2006 champion Tullamore are at home in Spollenstown to 2004 winners Arklow.

Elsewhere 2006 finalists Wicklow will host Clondalkin, who have got to the second round for the first time, 2-time winners Mullingar make the long journey to New Ross and Dundalk, champions on no fewer than nine occasions, are at home to Longford.

To make a right game out of it, night time match and winner takes all in both cups, hosie and towns!!

They are scheduled to play the towns cup on Sunday 14th & the Hosie Final on 17th, my predication is Portlaoises miserable season will be over by the 18th.

Newbridge have to get something out of the Garda game this weekend first before they can even think of the playoffs.

Portlaoise are a good cup team and they will fancy themselves to do the double over Newbridge, their experience might be the telling factor.

Newbridge 11 32 Portlaoise

Boyne at home to Enniscorthy
Dundalk away to New Ross
Portlaoise at home to Tullamore.

No real shocks there, fancy Monkstown to win the play-off now.

Quarter finals will be interesting

Boyne, New Ross, Portlaoise and Cill Dara to come through...

Yeah no real shocks, Boyne and Cill Dara were both a bit closer than expected but it is all about the win at this stage.

Newbridge will be getting worried no grreat form going into the playoffs a home loss to Enniscorthy an unconvincing win against a struggling Garda side and a thumping against the bottom team in Division 1, Monkstown will be favourites for the play offs

I Fancy, Enniscorthy, Dundalk,Tullamore & Cill Dara to come through

Quarter Final

Boyne V Enniscorthy - Boyne to Win Just because of Home advantage by 2/3 points
Dundalk V New Ross - New Ross to cause a big surprise by 2/3 points
Portlaoise V Tullamore - Portlaoise the Cup team to win by 7-10 points and tip to win cup
Wicklow V Cill Dara - Will be close but Cill Dara will come out on top by 2/3 points

The Tie of the round would have to be Portlaoise V Tullamore
So Semi Final
Boyne
New Ross
Portlaoise
Cill Dara

Would ya stop!
Boyne an LL Div 1 team will beat an inferior Enniscorthy easily enough.
Dundalk who are in serious form since Christmas will beat an average New Ross who again are in a lower div.
Tullamore should scrape by a typically dogged Portlaoise. This one will be decided by the morale of the demoted 'laoise men and whether or not they can still get up 4 the cup.
And Cill Dara should beat Wicklow depending on whether or not they decide to bring their A-game which at times this they have not!

When you look at recent results i.e. Portlaoise demolition of a "high flying" Newbridge side and Monkstown beating the best of the Div 1B i think it is an example of how the winner of the towns cup is gonna come form Div 1A.

When it comes down to it Div 1A is a much higher standard and the likes of Boyne or Dark horses Dundalk have to be there come final day.

There is a gap between the leagues and this will be apparent come next year. You can't substitute playing against stronger harder teams no matter how many match you win in a inferior league.
