Schools Rugby 2010/11 - SCT

Post by The Doc »

It's about that time of year - I'll start it off... CUS to surprise everyone again this year :D

Have heard Gonzaga have a decent team this year (I think) - first time in a long while.
I like your right leg. A lovely leg for the role.
I've got nothing against your right leg.
The trouble is ... neither have you

Its a pretty wide open competition this year.

I'll be looking towards Mary's and possibly belvo. Think Rock will be competitive but probably lacking a little xfactor to get them accross the line

Any players we should be looking out for as the next big thing? I know the Gerard's number 8 from last year is back and Clongowes have a few back of note. There is a winger , F Kenny who has scored 3 tries for Leinster this year but I don't know who he plays for or if he is even a school's player (with the 19s teams being a combination of school's and club players). Sexton has a brother at Mary's this year too. The Michael's scrum half is supposed to be excellent.

Michaels scrum half is very good alright.

Entire CWC back row is returning. As are the O’Suilleabhain twins and a number of others I think. This is the year that won the first Junior Cup cup since 52.

That Ferdia Kenny lad is Pres Bray according to the Leinster website.

I think Clongowes will be very good and Blackrock should be strong given all their representative players at U18 and U19.

Of the Section B schools will Gerard's be able to maintain last year's standard?

Did anyone get to see the Blackrock v Palmerston North (NZ) match last Wednesday? A real pity Blackrock had so many players tied up with Leinster. The Leinster Schools team should have played the New Zealanders - they might have given them a better match. Palmerston beat the Scottish Schools team last weekend.

Palmerston North a serious good side. Their 10, 12 & 13 all class. If Irish born, would be going straight to full contracts on
leaving school !! That good. The 12 ready to step up to Super 14. Their offloading in the tackle superb.

Pity 'Rock did not have their Leinster players available.... might have been able to give them a better test.
For sure, Leinster Schools should have played them.

Joe Scmidht plus all Leinster coaches watching plus Mafi from Munster who went through Palmerston.

The backrow and half backs last year were fifth years so they should be the same but the O'Suilleabhain's were in 6th year.
They were on that junior team too but they were underage fourth years as was Stephen McAuley.
Without them they wont walk the cup as they did then but they're still a good team.
Noel Reid and James Rodriguez were separated at birth.

Just got a text saying that Terenure are playing Gonzaga and that the rest of the big boys are in the other side of the draw.

Not sure what their form is like this year but Terenure have won the last two Junior cups so you'd imagine they'll be the ones to beat on that side. Great opportunity for everyone on that side to get to the final really, can't have been too many easier years to do it. Also I've heard that Joe Schmidt's son is playing for the Terenure juniors and looks the business.
