Pre season friendly. Ashbourne 77 - Mullingar 5. Both 1st teams. Ashbourne missing around seven 1st choice players (mostlt forwards). Mullingar missing a couple of starters but the team from last year no longer exists. Big gap between the two teams. Ashbourne backs run riot. Mullingar a lot to do to survive this year.

Thanks for the info, looks like it will be a long season for Garda. Attempts to drop out of 1a after they had Monkstown deducted points that ultimately resulted in them being relegated. Poor form by Garda. Coolmine losing at home is an interesting one and the wanderers result was pretty severe. 35-0 to Tullamore.

The Leinster branch were the ones that spotted that infringement by monkstown. The meltdown happened after all of that anyhow

Some result for Tullamore over the weekend versus Wanderers. 35-0, anyone at it? And Coolmine losing at home to Enniscorthy who usually don't travel all that well...

Having played in Div 1a last year it is always worth noting round 1 results usually do not mirror the season to follow. However by all accounts Tullamore have had a good pre season run. May be the ones to watch. We (Monkstown) played Railway in a friendly last week and they should do damage in their league. A very strong outfit. Stillorgan and Guinness both failed to field teams for the respective games against us which has left us slightly game starved but with some good signings and the same squad as last year things should be good by next week when 1b kicks off. :)

Big win at the weekend for Longford down in Carlow, anyone see that one?

Certainly did, Longford deserved the result and left a few behind them. They have a few players still to come back too, going to be a good game on Sunday. Good result for Tullow away in Wicklow, likewise for Clondalkin. Monkstown were the only team to record a home win. What did Ashbourne look like, heard they have lost a few players from last year.

Wouldn't have known them from last year but they always looked like they were ready to open up in attack, its seems like they have a game plan in mind that includes width but it just never came off for them, a handy 10 that controls a lot, Kiwi I think. But they will do well this weekend, Wicklow apparently building with a very young side so they may be happy enough to build this year, always enjoyed playing Tullow, a strong side but yeah this weekend will be tough going. Carlow can't be happy with that sort of lose on home soil...

Carlow seem to be in "transition". I wasn't at the game but heard that the home support was thin on the ground. Its hard to know were Longford good or Carlow poor, the season will answer that question. I hope you make the trip down to CPL Park this weekend although hopefully it will be a losing one. I recommend the lunch in the club before hand.

Haha many thanks spoofer, enjoy the game. I am hoping for a different outcome, naturally.

I'm guessing Mr seeding plays for Wicklow?

Would be consistent with predicting away wins :)

Anyone at the Tullamore and Garda match? 100 nil! Thats shocking in the top junior league in Leinster. Was talkin to a couple of friends and they said that Garda tried to be brought down a division or somethin like that because they knew they were losing numbers but they were told they would have to go down 5 divisions or something like that. Don't know what can be done but surely they can't allow results like this to happen every week. They lost by 50 a couple of weeks ago. Feel sorry for them

Having watched a couple of games over the last two weekends and seeing former "strong" clubs become "weak" and vice versa, what is the turnover of players at these clubs. I know everyone has suffered due to work commitments and emigration but how much is good recruitment policies also. do the branch no longer publish a Leinster Club Transfer list?

Maybe the good time are over for some clubs with big money gone from sponsors, players return home to play for what would have been the smaller clubs. Achange in the power balance is exactly whats needed !!!

I was at the Longford V Monstown game played in perfect conditions. It was a real ding dong battle with defences on top for both teams. Monkstown have a mssive pack and their No 8 did a lot of damage to the home team. It came down to a penalty shoot out with Longford landing their kicks while Monkstown missed a couple of opportunities. Ref had a decent game, scrums were a bit messy so he carded two of the props. Monkstown will be at the business end of the league come spring.
