Re: Age Grade Interpros
Leinster U-19 Whites beat the Exiles in Moseley by 24-7. It seems they had a couple of overage ringers in the team though with Shane Byrne at hooker and Kelvin Leahy playing on the wing.

Re: Age Grade Interpros
Next saturday Leinster play 3 interpros in 3 different venues in dublin. Surely all 3 games or at least both u19 games could have been played in the one venue
u19 Leinster Blue v Ulster, at Anglesea Road, 3:00 PM
u19 Leinster White v Connacht, at Templeville Road, 2:30 PM
u18 Clubs Leinster v Ulster, at Donnybrook, 1:30 PM

Interesting to see Oisín Heffernan [Roscrea] switched around to the tighthead side. Oliver Jager [Blackrock] started there in the first two games, but he doesn't resemble a prop in build in the slightest. Heffernan is a big unit.cormac wrote:The Leinster Schools (Under-18) team, sponsored by Newstalk, to face Connacht on Wednesday afternoon in Donnybrook (KO: 2.30pm) has been named...

That's very typically Rock though isn't it? Their front rowers tend to be very athletic and suited to a fast and skillful game. I don't mean that as a criticism btw.hugonaut wrote:Interesting to see Oisín Heffernan [Roscrea] switched around to the tighthead side. To be honest, I haven't seen too much Senior Cup rugby recently, bar the occasional game on Setanta and most of the finals.LeRouxIsPHat wrote:That's very typically Rock though isn't it? You do hear a lot of criticism about teams fielding flankers as props because of the underage scrummaging laws, but the last couple of finals I've seen have all featured the Byrne brothers and Dan O'Byrne for Clongowes and that big lump Lawless for Michaels, so I assumed that people were basically talking b*llocks! Those lads are all born front-rowers.

Possibly but they are only starting out in terms of learning how to be props.hugonaut wrote:To be honest, I haven't seen too much Senior Cup rugby recently, bar the occasional game on Setanta and most of the finals.LeRouxIsPHat wrote:That's very typically Rock though isn't it? Re: Age Grade Interpros
Leinster Schools 61 - 3 Connacht Schools
[7:00] Clongowes centre Fergal Cleary blocked down a poorly-thought out attempted clearance kick on the Connacht 10m line, daintily picked up the ball a hair's breadth from the touchline and then sprinted in against a gaining chase defense to dive over in the left hand corner. Outhalf Ross Byrne brilliantly converted from the touchline. 7-0
[10:00] With Connacht on the attack, Leinster penalised for offside in the backline on their own 22. Connacht No10 slotted over the kick from the left of the sticks. 7-3
[12:00] Dardis regathered a poor box kick on halfway and and went right, passing to the quick right wing who took off for the corner flag. He fed Harrison Brewer in the Connacht 22 to leave Brewer with a classic 2-on-1 with the Connacht fullback; Brewer stepped inside, drew his man and released pacy second row Rory Moloney to go over near the right corner and dot down to the right of the posts. Byrne converted. 14-3
[18:00] Connacht cleared their lines under pressure, but Leinster took a quick lineout on the right touchline halfway between the Connacht 22 and the 10. In midfield, No8 Nick Timoney fed Dardis who took off for the left corner flag – he had the pacy left wing McCormack outside him and should have drawn some of the cover and sent No11 over unharried, but backed his pace and bagged his first try of the game. Byrne converted another fantastic kick from the left touchline. 21-3
[23:00] Another weak Connacht clearing kick and slow chase found Dardis in space, who went left and then fed McCormack. The Castleknock winger chipped over the top and would have won the race were he not [illegally] impeded by the Connacht defense, but they ignored the chasing Moloney, who gathered the ball brilliantly at full stretch and scored to the left of the sticks. Byrne converted a relatively easy kick. 28-3
[32:00] What looked like an excellent relieving kick from Connacht was called for having been takne back into the 22. After a very well-organised maul and and big hit-up off the back from the now super-charged Moloney, No8 Timoney scored under the sticks through some appalling Connacht tackling. Byrne goaled to make it 35-3
A serious injury disrupted the game off the next restart, when a Connacht player was down injured for some time and had to be stretchered off. This was on the other side of the pitch from the grandstand, so I couldn't tell who it was ... hopefully the lad isn't badly hurt.
-HT-
[+9:00] After Leinster have been on the attack for much of the first ten minutes of the second half [and bizarrely being penalised quite heavily by the referee], Dardis bags his second try of the game. Off a scrum on the Connacht 22 on the right, the ball goes left and Dardis takes it coming into the line outside the first centre and with a big sidestep and some poor tackling is through the gap. He beats two more and scores 10m in from the left touchline. Byrne, as ever, converts flawlessly. 42-3
[+14:00] Leinster scrum on the left of their own 10m line. Outhalf Ross Byrne loops Brewer, who fakes the charging Cleary before popping back to Byrne. Byrne skillfully feeds a wide Dardis coming from very deep, who gives and takes a pass brilliantly under pressure to right wing ... may have been a little bit forward, but still a smahing bit of skill. The right-wing mistimes his inside-out and is scragged 4m from the Connacht line, but with some Josh Kronfeld-esque play, openside Thornton takes a pop off the ground and dives over while being tackled. Brilliant support play. Byrne converts from the right touchline [his bad side] with the best kick of the day. 49-3
[+22:00] After more Leinster pressure and some big angled hit-ups from Brewer, Leinster are awarded another penalty near the right touchline, 5m out from the Connacht line. Moloney calls for it while he's steaming in from the middle of the pitch on a very acute angle and scores nearer the touchline than where the penalty was awarded. That's his hat-trick. Byrne misses a very difficult conversion from wide on the right. 54-3
[+33:00] Attacking out of their 22 on the counter, centre Cleary puts right wing away into space with a nicely floated pass. He gobbles up the metres down the left wing and feeds Dardis outside him around the Connacht 10, who burns the last defender off and scores under the sticks for Byrne to covert his hat-trick try. 61-3
This is a pretty special Leinster side - they've scored 23 tries in their three games, and only conceded one [to Ulster].
Connacht fielded a very big front five and had some success in the scrums – which were very back and forth – but their lineout was picked off at least four times, with some exceptional aerial work by Moloney, No6 Murphy and Moloney's second row partner James Ryan [an incredible fourth year prospect]. The Leinster pack also put in some huge early hits, softening the Connacht cough before they could get into the game. Moloney [again] and Thornton put in hard, dynamic front-on tackles on big Connacht forwards and set the tone ... after that the Leinster pack were all doing their best to line-up Connacht runners and drop them in their tracks.
Brewer has really, really sharp hands and reads the game well. Himself and Cleary often switched in and out in both attack and defense, with Brewer again being used as a decoy pretty often, just as he was against Ulster. Brewer is a very, very big unit who plays the position very well – it's certainly not a case of 'give me the ball and watch me run into people'. Outside him, Cleary is a genuine talent.
Up front, Moloney was simply outstanding in everything he did ... he's pretty tiny for a second-row, and there's no chance that he'll play there in the senior ranks, but he's a leader, a brilliant line-out operator, reads the game very well and makes a lot of big plays. Just a smashing rugby player. You'd say the same about Billy Dardis [bar the line-out bit] - everything he does, he does well, and he's such a threat with ball in hand. Ross Byrne is a big, tall, sort of slow-footed outhalf, but my word, the lad is a hell of a goal-kicker. I've seen him play at this level twice and he has knocked over 17 of 19 conversions, from all over the park.

Excellent report Hugonaut, very thorough. Almost seems a shame that they've got no more games to play as a group.
Look out Itchy, he's Irish
Re: Age Grade Interpros
Comprehensive stuff Hugo. Gives us some names to look out for in the Schools Cup next year too. Terenure might just be back in the mix with the likes of Dardis & Brewer (who were both very good last year) plus Thornton and Roche in the pack. And Tim Schmidt doesn't look too bad either.
