Re: Cricket World Cup
Really need to keep South Africa to less than 250 if we're to win this game. They've bowled out every team they've played to date in less than 50 overs and many of those sides have superior batting line-ups to what we'll be able to offer. The key is Duminy. If he goes soon, they'll struggle to carry any momentum into the powerplay.

No, it's not I'm afraid, 273 it a very tough target against Sth Africa's attack..Donny B. wrote:Not looking so good now!
Very disasppointing finish after putting in such good early work. Hopefully the pressure doesn't get to the lads chasing the runs, they need to remember that they are complete outsiders to get a result the pressure is on South Africa to win this...
Time for Kevin O'Brien to prove his mettle and show the Cricketing world that his century was no fluke, we could do with a skippers innings as well....

Re: Cricket World Cup
Probably 50 more than they deserved.
We need all top order batsmen to perform if we are to have any chance of winning. I'm thinking 4 50's in the innings and then contributions from every other man.
If we have 2 recognised batsmen in good nick at the crease, take the powerplay early. Don't wait till the end. Run rate always rises in the last 5 overs, you don't need a powerplay for that.

not really going to plan at this stage..need another big knock from O'Brien.. Will do well to reach 150 at this rate.Darce wrote:Probably 50 more than they deserved.

Re: Cricket World Cup
Top order blew it, alway s going to be a challeng be for our bowlers to restrict SA. 270 was competitvive though, but not if your top order aren't giving you a start...
Stirling seems to be out of his depth at the WC, he's only a pup at 20 mind so plenty of time to develop. But perhaps might have been an idea to push Joyce with his experience up to two and it woudl have giving Stirling the time to see what's happening with the wicket/ball etc...

House of cards now, Cusack gone as well for 7 leaving us at 107/7.
Mooney & Johnston at the crease, would be a crushing blow to the team if we can't get within a hundred of the total....

Re: Cricket World Cup
And so it comes to pass. Top order let the side down I'm afraid, not enough runs from any one of the top 6 to give us a remote chance of getting close...Sea_point wrote:House of cards now, Cusack gone as well for 7 leaving us at 107/7.

Credit to the thrid ranked one day side in the world though, ruthless in exposing our soft underbelly....
Lads must lift themselves and have to show that same ruthlesness in disposing of the Dutch in the last match. They badly need to show that we are a class ahead in the Associate ranks...

Looks like its a good slug fest on at the minute. Thought it was going to be a tough chase at over 300 but the way it's started is looking good

255 now, Wilson just hit 2 Sixes and a four off 3 balls in the last over, we need more of that!dod wrote:233-3 now.. Need 74 from 66 balls.. Getting close but should be ok

And Kevin O'Brien finishes it with a six which is a fitting end to Ireland's CWC really.

I bet they're looking back at the Bangladesh game and thinking what if? A good performance from the boys this tournament - hopefully the ICC will give them a break now and help out even more.
