For any Campers or Caravanners out there Halfords have a sale on now. Allot of stuff is reduced and when reserved online for collection you get another 20% off.

http://www.halfords.ie/webapp/wcs/store ... _langId_-1

This also applies to Camping Gaz Cannisters so good time to stock up.

http://www.halfords.ie/webapp/wcs/store ... ew_size=10

I priced these cupboards a couple of weeks ago and the price was €49.99. Today there are €39.99 with an additional 20% off.

1kg cornflakes are about a fiver and an adult pass for the zoo is about €15. They don't check that you've eaten all the cornflakes before they let you in.

This is Heritage Week.

http://www.heritageweek.ie/

Lots of stuff on this week and over the weekend for FREE. You can search by day and location here. It says if event is open to kids.

I did a walk of the mining area of Avoca on Sunday (really interesting) and am off for a tour of the Monastic City in Glendalough today.

Apologies just checked this and there is a charge on a few events. Most seem free though.

I went on the tour in the Monastic City today - really enjoyed it.

Ructions about it on Joe Duffy (where else?) I believe.

"Cheap veg, Joe? The humanity!"

Both supermarkets have stated that they're taking the hit on price, not their suppliers.

Yep because agressive below cost selling by large multi national retailers never involves pressure on local suppliers or local independent retailers....

Great and all as these deals are they actually can do huge harm to an economy in the long run if not kept in check as competitors run the risk of being irreprably damaged e.g. Aldi/Lidl move into a town/village and very shortly you see the smaller shops, sometimes family run, see their business destroyed all of a sudden suppliers especially smaller producers have a lack of options in terms of who they can sell too and it becomes a vicious circle.

Dem's de breaks of an open market. I actually agree with you that a race to the bottom is not necessarily what we want to see in any market. But "food poverty" is a massive item in the news at the moment so I think you'll find it very hard to argue convincingly that making fresh food more affordable is a bad thing in the current climate.
