Like the CI, the IOM is not technically part of the UK. (Self governing and not members of the EU).
Think they are called protectorates. They have their own parliaments etc.
The locals from all of those places are British citizens, or "Brits" - which seeing as that is the term that johng used which started this discussion means they are included in the total too.

They are Crown Dependencies. The reigning British Monarch is the Head of State and the Parliaments are the Tynwald (IOM) and States Assembly's (CI). Very few people in the UK would call themselves British. They are more likely to call themselves English, Scottish, Welsh, Manx, etc. Many of my relatives wouldn't even call themselves English or Irish, but Londoners. I've friends who are Lancastrian and Cornish. Being British doesn't register on their radar. It's only something that appears in their passports.

Just like the only people who use the word Eire these days are English.

TerenureJim wrote:IMHO some people have a hang up about giving Italy their fair due in the competition. They've beaten everyone bar England and are a seriously tough nut at home even SH sides struggle to break them down. I recall on Saturday on RTE McGuirk even stated that people were warming to the new 6 nations destination, this despite them being in the comp 15 years!!!
I was at the match and I thought Italy were dreadful. After 15 seasons it's hard to see where they are going as a rugby nation. The two Italian Pro12 teams are bottom of the league and Treviso only managed a single win in the Heineken Cup this year.

The disallowed try at the end was the only time I can recall them threatening our try line and it looked to me like the Italians would have been thrilled to get a consolation try. Only scoring 3 points in a home game is pretty poor. We waited around in our seats for a while afterwards to see if the Irish team came back out and I have to say I was surprise to see Parisse leading some of him team mates around waving at the crowd.

Rome really is a fantastic destination for an away trip and I'd be more than happy to return in two years.

Not being 100%, although I do use Irish most days, but....
People seem to usually use Eireann / Na hÉireann as opposed to "Eire" ( "Brits" use "Eire", Frogs use Irlande  )
