Troubled Fijian winger Rupeni Caucau will head back to his French side Agen after recovering from typhoid, the Fiji Sun reports today.
It revealed too that French agents are about to sweep up more Fijian players, including under-19 rugby winger Seremaia Tagicakibau recently signed a two-year contract with Counties Manukau Rugby Union to join their sports academy and be part of their development squad.
Caucau, who originally played for North Auckland and the Auckland Blues, has often had problems playing outside his country, preferring to remain in his remote village on Vanua Levu.
He failed to turn up in Agen recently and then revealed he was suffering from typhoid fever.
His French based agent Immanuel Blorville told the Fiji Sun that his client would return to France next week.
"I will be meeting Rupeni in Suva on Thursday to finalise all arrangements before we return to Labasa on Sunday before the trip back to France," Blorville said.
"His wife and kid will join us later in France when they are a little stronger."
He said Caucau has two more years in his initial contract with the club and they would probably extend his contract.
"In France Caucau is huge and that alone would be good for Fiji come next year. After all he is best player in the world."
He revealed French sides were looking to pick up other Fijians, naming under 21 players Jone Qovu and Tagicakibau.
Qovu was favoured for Toulouse or Agen.
"He is a very good player, very explosive one and judging by the way he is doing he has a good future to look forward to in rugby," Blorville said.
He claimed the drain of talent from Fiji would only affect the country's rugby for a short time.
"It is good that these players make the move while they are still young. I do not what the FRU has planned for these players but I believe they would stand to benefit more if these players went overseas.
"(They) will learn to be more disciplined, be educated on the proper training techniques, about diets what foods are good and what is bad in training. When they come back they will be more professional in their approach towards their game and Fiji Rugby would not have to start from the basics to train these guys. They will return to boost the national side in future," Blorville told the Fiji Sun.
