JPP tried to blow his hand up with some fireworks over the weekend. Fortunately there doesn't seem to have been anything other than superficial damage, and his hand should be ok in time for him to sign the franchise tag next week ....

Tottenham Hotspur will host NFL matches at new stadium

The NFL will stage a minimum of two American football games a season over 10 years at Tottenham Hotspur's new stadium.
The 61,000-capacity venue - due to open in 2018 - will feature a retractable grass pitch with an artificial surface underneath for NFL games.
The stadium will be built adjacent to White Hart Lane - Spurs' current home.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy said the link-up with the NFL was a "compelling and exciting partnership"........

Seems worse than reported.

And he broke his thumb. Poor guy. Lot of very cruel (but very funny) gags and memes going around about it. Losing your index finger is not a good situation for anyone, but particularly a star pass-rusher whose job it is to grab opponents and bring them down. Then when you figure the same guy was holding out for an even bigger contract than the one he stood to make, his gamble has backfired (ouch!) pretty spectacularly.

Commissioner Goodell has upheld the 4-game ban imposed on Tom Brady. I have to say I;m surprised he didn't bow to pressure and reduce the sentence - pleasantly surprised, as I think there's enough evidence - circumstantial as it may be - to suggest Brady was complicit in the ball tampering and in trying to organise a cover-up. The NFLPA have indicated they';ll be taking the case to the federal courts, but I'd assume the suspension will have already been served before that case reaches the courts. Not knowing how the US legal system works, I'm not clear as to whether the NFLPA's action would mean a lifting of the ban until a judge had heard the case. I'd imagine Belichick would sooner lose Brady for the first four games than the last four - or a potential playoff match.

That is sad only saw highlights of him playing but was a fan of his broadcasting, he was old enough years ago so at least he got to live a full and eventful life RIP

So, in the AFCE - as it stands:

NE - no Brady for 4 games (subject to appeal with inevitable conclusion)
NYJ - Ryan Fitzpatrick
Buf - Manuel/Tuel/Simms/Cassel/Taylor/someone please shoot me

and, for once since Dan hung up his perming tongs....

MIA - Ryan Tannehill is the best QB in the division (for a short while). He's looking very good in practice. If Brandon Albert can make it back for Game 1, we have a good chance of making a run this year.

The curse of the pre-season has kicked in again. Washington TE Niles Paul won't play again this season and he joins Pittsburgh kicker Sean Suisham as early pre-season casualties. My guess is that they won't be the last.

The pre-season curse continues. The Green Bay Packers' Jordy Nelson busted an ACL. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300000 ... -on-sunday. Gone for the season. He was one of my of go to's in the Fantasy League. Speaking of which, any chance of another this year for Babbling Brook?

Nelson's injury was one of those total freak accidents. No-one near him, he just jumped up to field a ball thrown a little high and landed awkwardly. He got off the field under his own steam. We'll just have to hope he's ok and it's just a sprain. Nelson is a fantastic performer and the league will be all the poorer if it loses him this season.
Kelvin Benjamin got injured in training on Weds or Thurs. He's definitely out for the season and will be another huge loss to the league as well as to Carolina.

We'll defo go for another fantasy season for Babbling Brook. When last I checked, NFLUK weren't open for fantasy business. I'll put up a league as soon as I can.

The Giants' O-line looked much more secure on Saturday night. We'll have to wait a couple of weeks to see if that's an improvement, or merely reflective of the lack of quality of the opposition. Defence is looking good against the run, but pretty poor against the pass. I guess that's to be expected as we have almost no secondary at the moment. Hopefully when we get players back from injury that'll improve.

Jarryd Hayne continues to impress in SF, particularly as a punt returner. He's a lovely openfield runner - seems to glide along - and has a knack of making tacklers miss. It's a joy to see a guy who has the instinct to switch the ball from one arm to the other away from contact, and someone who uses the stiffarm to good effect. He definitely has skills that could set him apart in the NFL. As a running back, he still has quite a bit to learn. Most of his highlights are from outside runs - he still hasn't developed the vision to cut through the tin seams up the middle. At his rate of progress, it's only a matter of time till he develops that skill. If I had to guess right now, I;d say he'll make their final 53 (barring injury, of course).

Miami's FS Louis Delmas also out for the year (probably his career at this point) with an ACL too. Tore the same one he tore last year.

I saw the Kelvin Benjamin injury and it looked nothing. Just planted his foot and then collapsed on the ground. Season over.

And now the Redskins look likely to start Kirk ahead of RGIII.
If you dont know your starting QB after the 3rd preseason game - you are in for a long(short) season.

I suspect Gruden has always known who he's wanted as starting QB - it's just taken him a year and a half to get Dan Snyder onside with his decision!

On another note, the Babbling Brook fantasy league is now active again as the Bear aims to defend her title. Log on to http://fantasy.nfluk.com/uksalarycap/leagues to play. League Name is: Babbling Brook. League Password is: Leinster. The more the merrier. For those who haven't played before, it's a week-to-week selection with a salary cap rather than a draft league
