French Top 14 2015/2016

Post by Oldschool »

Just thought we needed a new thread.
Toulon beaten at home by Racing in the opening game of the new season. There may be trouble ahead!
Mirror, Mirror on the Wall who's the greatest player of them all? It is Drico your majesty.

1st Round :

Toulon (BP) 22-27 Racing 92

La Rochelle 6-44 (BP) ASM Clermont
Bordeaux-Bègles 19-16 (BP) Castres
Toulouse 24-7 Brive
Montpellier (BP) 35-19 Oyonnax
Grenoble (BP) 38-23 Agen

Stade Français 34-18 Pau

Clermont's Youngsters on fire. As always, every 4 years, thanks to the World Cup, we can watch some rugby in top 14, the former future best club championship in the world...

You're talking about Paul O'Drasiak
Everybody got to know.

Round 2
Montferrand 25 - 6 Grenoble
Métro-Racing 20 - 19 La Rochelle
Oyonnax 37 - 19 Bordeaux
Pau 26 - 16 Montpellier
Castres - Toulon today 17 pm
Brive 22 - 13 Stade Français
Agen 9 -20 Toulouse

Lucky Métro, La Rochelle missed a drop goal in the extra time.

Stade Français will only play "money games" as they successfully did last year. I guess they will respect the European Cup as Castres did last year...

Some troubles in Pau where a "supporter" has booed Nagusa as a Monkey. Welcome to 2015's France.

Canal+ reporting Toulon have sent an SOS to Carl Hayman to play and help Jacques Delmas with the coaching, Delmas doing all the coaching now as Laporte is campaigning to be FFR president, they ve also asked Dominguez to begin his first coaching job (Toulon boss) earlier than the planned December 11th

All is not rosy on the South coast of France, especially after 2 defeats

Toulon could lose a third game next week in Paris.
I don't think it is a huge problem for them.
They've have enough players to win 20 games in a row. And if they need it, they will buy 1, 5 or 30 others players.

Still, even for a club as strong as Toulon, the reality is that losing, like winning, can become a habit. Leinster will certainly hope so

That was more than expected with 20 players currently unavailable for the RWC. Of course, that's not an excuse and the temporary team must limit the damages until they're back.
With no guarantee that things works when they will land on there in the middle of a cr@p season.

Plus : the VI Nations will follow, and this season Top 14 will finish on June's last week-end, likely without all the internationals who'll take part of June test matches...

You wanna shoot Toulon down and add a triple champion at your hunting board? That's the season or never.

Actually 17 players selected. With 7 World Cup Covers, all confirmed players, that was not so much expected.

And the most surprising (or not...) is that the young players from the academy are better than the world cup cover (Belan, Seuteni, etc...).

By taking some Super Rugby players, that are possibly good players but that have no time to adapt themselves to the french top 14 specificities, Boudjellal has made a big mistake imo.

Anyway, with the team available in November, Toulon will be able to win 20 on 20... Don't worry.

I'm wondering how Clermont is doing with 12 players off to the WC and 4 long-term injuries and only 3 world cup cover.

3rd Round :

Oyonnax 24-41 (BP) ASM Clermont

La Rochelle 21-18 (BP) Brive
Grenoble (BP) 41-15 Section Paloise
Agen 30-18 Racing 92
Toulouse 38-20 Castres Olympique

Currently, Montpellier is leading in Bordeaux (16-21) and tonight, Toulon might be at the end of table if they lose to Stade Français.

Clermont youngsters still on the track with another impressive display in Oyonnax.

Stade Français 13-20 Toulon

Not a great game, but a well deserved win to Toulon.

I implore you all to follow @gavinmortimer7 on twitter, rugby world writer based in Paris, has all the good info on French rugby

Toulouse have been a revelation now theyre shut of Noves
Laporte has performed a volteface and will be coaching Toulon full time until end of season, not sure what is happening with Dominguez now but Galthie might be taking over at the end of the season. They also want rid of Matt Stevens

Blanco is still interfering with Biarritz and the squad are trying to get rid of their back coach
