So its official! The Rams are to leave St. Louis and go back to LA.
They have been a St. Louis team throughout my NFL fandom. I only started following the team because of the connection to STL.
The team had been pretty much the worst team in the NFL before the move to St. Louis and after a promising start for a few seasons they went back to the rubbish team they had been before arriving.
Then 1999 happened out of nowhere. Some great free agent signings, and super trade for Marshall Faulk, the drafting of Tory Holt. Green went down in preseason and Kurt Warner came in for what was IMO one of the most amazing stories the NFL has ever thrown up. That season was amazing and ended with a Superbowl win. From worst to first!
The following 2 or 3 seasons were good too. The offense broke records and the entertainment value was high.
And since then its been pretty poor stuff and the franchise has been run in to the ground and its looked like Kroenke has been angling to get out of STL for a while now.
I feel bad for the STL NFL fans. I really do. This is the second NFL franchise that has walked away from the city in 30 years.
The Lou is a baseball town though - always has been, always will be. I've met plenty of guys from LA at games in St. Louis. I wonder will many St. Louisians make a similar pilgrimage?
The Rams are my team now. This won't change that! The Rams will remain long after Stan Kroenke has moved on.
