Firstly, how expensive are the tickets?
Secondly - much cheaper on their site.

Seems crazy

Not a ST holder anymore but I was gonna go over for this. Cheap flights and even though there are lots of tickets available on the Saints website, they're too expensive. Plenty of Northampton fans complaining, rightly, about the costs. These are QF prices for a group game. Use the money for something else

From memory of the last outing, there is a club - possibly a working men's one - close to the ground and it was pretty busy with both sets of fans. After the game, as it ends kind of late, I'll be heading back into town for a few swift ones (not sure where) before bed.

Other places nearby are the Sevens (although that's past the saints stadium from town) and the Thomas Beckett.

In the town centre, the Wig & Pen on St Giles Street is rather good.

A bit out of town but worth a visit if you're staying on Saturday is the Olde England http://www.theoldeengland.com/ or the Lamplighter http://www.thelamplighter.co.uk/

I doubt either of those will be showing the rugby however. I've not been to this place but I did see the England vs Argentina match was being shown here last weekend so it could be worth a try: http://www.markettavernnorthampton.co.uk/

Any idea if it's better to book the train from the airport to Northampton in advance, or will it be as cheap to buy at the station?

Which airport? I doubt it at this stage but you could try the operators webpage or Trainline to see if there is a deal.

FFS Don't buy from the train line.com. You will be charged a fee. Use
The London Midland website. No fee. They had some good deals recently. Plus you can pick up your tickets from the machines at Birmingham International or Luton Airport or any UK main Railway Station.
