Was at the game - Andrew's were a bit of a mess to be honest, got hammered physically, their scrum was very poor, their defensive systems a bit disasterous and with the exception of Sullivan And Henry didn't really break the line. To their credit they didn't stop playing and were right back in it just after half time. Belvo looked good but rusty. They kept it quite tight around the set piece and rucks when they probably would have benefited from a bit more width and pace. A good team but not quite up to last year's on this performance.

Season over for a the rugby squads at Andrew's and Kings Hos in January. Doesn't feel like this is a good way to run the schools game to be honest. Both teams were hammered too......

Most people know this isn't the best way to do it but I can't see it changing anytime soon.

There is plate competitions but who pays any attention to them
It isnt a good way for most but what chances are there that things will change any time soon?

I disagree. The league that the 2nd tier schools play in is highly valued and extremely competitive. I have seen what it means to schools like Gerards to play competitive league matches throughout November/December while the 1st tier schools are playing warm up games. The Rocks/Belvos players never know their 1st choice team until the last week in January. In many ways the KH's, Andrews, Gerards etc have a much better season. It is not all about the SC for the 2nd tier schools.

Its the end of january several weeks away from mocks for a lot of schools. Many other sports can continue right until the exams begin. So work for leaving isnt an excuse to stop changing the format.

League is valued but still all focus will be on qualifying and preparing for the cup.
The Cups should be expanded and developed more.

Cracking game between Fintan's and Clongowes. 24-22 to Clongowes with less than 15 mins to go

edit: and as soon as I type that, Fintan's retake the lead with a try under the posts

Clongowes pressure pays off, camped on the line for a few minutes, Fintan's player yellow carded. Try under the posts.

31-29 3-4 mins left

Fintan's penalty. Out wide on right outside the 22, last kick of the game. missed, game over.

Clongowes win 31-29

Jack Aungier was immense at TH, one to watch out for. Would possibly be Ireland u20 prop right now if he was out of school.

Fair play to St Fintans. They gave it some go. I didnt see it but apparently is was a really tough kick at the death. I think they were a man down so they probably felt they had no choice but to go for it.

Cracking game, it was last play of the game so they had no choice really, looked over all the way but just dropped short. Lot of players from Suttonians youths and a few from Clontarf. Some good players from St. Fintans very impressed with them
