Definitely a cornerstone for Leinster and Ireland in the oldest definition that world. Possability of him turning out for a University here or overseas if he is going to follow the further education route. What a wealth of technical and practical experience he possesses.

He'll be sorely missed. Turned the scrum around at half time vs Northampton and set a platform for the comeback. I loved his try vs Wasps a few years back in the challenge cup.

This could be a bit short sighted from Leinster. Mike Ross could be the most sought after scrum coach in Europe in a few years; if he moves to another club for a season they'll be first in line for his services when he retires from playing.

What a player, though. So many of these eulogies begin "on his day..." but he was never off his day. And he also has more Leinster try of the season awards than Drico!

The problem is that we already have a pretty good scrum coach at the moment.

Who says he has to start with senior team?

Yikes, we're not keeping the scrum whisper'r? Hard to believe after he finally unveiled his "magnum" step and break over in little Britain this season with that 70m dash. That must have blown the shite out of his meters gained stats for the season.
Declan kidney did not know what he was losing when he let Ross go....

Was his break not against the Dragons? Their analysts didn't see that one coming. No siree.

That's the one. Wasn't on telly, assumed it was Italy. Fixed

Kidney wasn't quick to pick him either after he took ownership of the starting jersey at Leinster. But it was a big contributor to him getting fired.

Ross has been probably the best example I've ever seen of a player being thrown on the scrap heap and proving everyone wrong.

He's shown signs that his form is badly dropping with age but it might be just injury disruption and he might do well for a few years. His value is diminished so it might depend on whether it's worth prolonging his career.

I think he'd be best utillised as an IRFU scrum guru who should work with all the acadamey props in the provinces.

The sport that unites Catholic, Protestant and dissenter has had its day of days. Pity anybody who can't enjoy it. Some day.

I'd be interested to hear some opinion from our rival supporters on here as to how Ross is viewed outside the province. Would any be interested to have him at their club/province for a year? Would anyone like to see him involved in their scrum coaching at some level?

Kid'nMe certainly backed the wrong horse in Mushy. In fairness, at that time mobile 6'5 tightheads were all the rage (e.g. Andrew Sheridan). The fact these behemoths couldn't scrummage only became an issue with the arrival of the ELVs.

'Yo' Be One Kid'n'Nobodi has made the same mistake in casting off Ryan in favour of Toner.

Ultimately, both men will be haunted by these fateful decisions and like the Emperor Ausgustus will wake in fright some day to cry out:

"Quintili Vare, legiones redde!"
"Only in America!"

It was always an issue, it became critical and he wasn't prepared to adapt with the game.

Ross worked on his game and was adaptive. He was never flashy but was usually very effective.

And would you please stop trying to pollute threads with irrelevant tribal nonsense. Nucifora and Erasmus are more involved in Ryans contract than Schmidt.
